How did you survive Thanksgiving Day?

  1. 1. How did you survive Thanksgiving Day?

    • I stayed on plan throughout the day.
    • I stayed on plan but indulged in a small sampling of dessert or other things that I typically don?t eat.
    • I started off strong on the plan but by end of the day I was freely sampling everything.
    • I went off plan for the holiday.

I was just wondering how everyone in the U.S. did on Turkey day. It is such a big day for feasts and is a trying time for some of us bandsters. Do you have any funny stories? Were you able to stay on the bandster plan? Did you have any slip-ups?

I did pretty good for primary meals, lots of turkey and veggies which are on my plan. I had a tablespoon of macaroni and cheese which was yummy but I don't usually eat (I also know that more than 1 tablespoon might make me sick).

In the evening I went off plan a bit. I had a cup of eggnog which had about 300 calories. I also had a small square of pumpkin cake (my favorite dessert in the world that I eat once a year) with some whipped topping.

All in all, I probably indulged in an extra 800 calories or so, but I don't feel guilty because I enjoyed myself with family, worked out 2 extra times this week and I am back on plan today. (I also have the excuse that the baby made me do it since I am expecting, lol)

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves over the holiday!!!

missing one other option:

WANTED to indulge, but the band had other ideas.

aside from the wine - that was about all the calories i was able to get in.

Like Lulu, I had planned to eat more than the band decided I could eat - the turkey came out a bit too dry and I think I managed about 2 ounces. The blueberry pie made it down, tho.

But I'm again in that very annoying up-down-up-down of a pound phase right now. Guess I should be used to it by now, sigh.

Stayed on...Pumpkin pie is something that I indulged in during my former life!!! It looked good and smelled good but I knew if i put the first piece in my mouth that it would be over. I did put some cinnamon and whipped cream into my coffee, had some turkey, stuffing, green Beans, and gravy.

I didn't eat much because my band wouldn't let me. I did eat some ham, which I know is bad, and I ate a piece of chocolate pie. Other than that, I did really well. The best thing was everyone noticed my weight loss, especially an aunt I haven't seen in a very long time. So that was better to me than eating everything in sight.

I am totally unfilled---was unfilled back in April for my TT, and have never filled since, and managed to maintain. That being said....I ate like I was totally unfilled too!!! LOL

But Friday I was back to considering what I was eating, and how much. Trying to stick to the turkey left overs, and avoid the starchy carb left overs!

I think I just began grazing as I prepared, and continued grazing through the day. Now I did think about it, and when I was tempted to sneak into the dessert type snack foods that were around, I chose to go with celery and cheese. But I did not deny myself anything I truly wanted. I have not been on the scale, plan on giving myself a week to watch the food and work out a bit more....and then see what it looks like!

This is how I hope to live the rest of my life. Indulge, on occasion ---as most people do, just avoid the over indulging on a daily make that hourly basis!

Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday!

Kat

even after all that cooking and baking I feel I did fantastic, 5 shrimp (no sauce or butter) and 1 bite of hubby's turkey. OH, and a Protein Bar in the morning and at lunch

I stayed on - maybe ate a bit more than normal, but the things I ate were healthy - more veggies,

NO DESSERT.... NONE... NADA.

NO bread *even though it was my own, family recipe, homemade bread that I spent 5 hours baking*

So I came out OK... no loss, but no gain, and glucose was 108 the next morning.

I did absolutely horrible and am truly ashamed of myself. I'm within 10 pounds of my goal and figured I'd try and eat fairly normal through the holidays. I even told my husband that I wouldn't worry about losing anymore until after the new year with the hopes that I could eat sensibly, enjoy, and still not gain. How wrong I was, I couldn't make it through thanksgiving and am afraid what xmas will bring. I know I need a fill and was going to wait until new years for that, but I'll call tomorrow and see when I can get in. In the meantime, I'm going low carb and see if I can't shed what I just put on.

There was no option that matched my response. I have no plan! I ate what I wanted to eat in small quantities and didn't gain any weight. :wink2: I'm happy that I don't feel like I have to "diet".

I'm so PROUD of all of you!!! Kudos to you all. As for me, I was weak, I grazed all day, I ate the left overs, I ate pie, I didn't exercise. I suck. So I'm pretty down on myself and up on the scale. FOUR pounds!!! I just want to cry. It takes 3 weeks for me to lose four pounds, and 5 days to gain it. My pants are tight today. Send me your good vibes. I need them.

Me too...I served myself a small spoonfull of everything and a very tiny sliver of pumpkin pie. And let the band do the rest. I was able to taste everything but couldn't clean my plate. The only thing I skipped was the bread and the crust of the pie. No gain here either.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
