One week into the journey...!

Recommended Posts

Had the procedure down at University of Illinois a week ago, and so far, so good. Also had a hiatal hernia done at the same time, so I guess I've got one more little smile line than most of you, but healing is going great. Went to work last Sunday morning two days after surgery, which probably wasn't a genius move, but I had lots of help and so I basically got lots of brownie points and had folks say, "What are you doing here? Go home!"

I'm one of those weird people who actually kind of enjoyed the liquid diet, so that got me off to a fast start that I kind of hate to slow down. Big news is, diabetes meds including insulin- DONE. I'm cruising at 11o mg/dl doing nothing; amazing. I was one of those perpetually on the high end. Anyone else have experience with how to monitor and back off of meds as positive change happens?

Also, I'm sure I'll find it eventually, but is there a shortcut to those cool graphs everyone has of their progress? I'm very visually motivated...!

Thanks,

:) BigShu (Phil)

Congrats! I don't know how you went back to work so quickly. More power to you. As far as the graphics, this link might help. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f18/new-site-57468/

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
