Hi again,

My question is this (and I seem to have several at once lol) but anyways,I had my surgery on 11-3-08. I've not had a fill yet but there are times when I eat that it's almost uncomfortable (pain in the chest area)and then there are times I can't feel anything. I posted this in one of my replies but I figured i'd post this thread by it's self. Can you all give me some idea what you were FEELING a few weeks after your surgery? I'd really appreciate it!!

I had nonfat sf plain yogurt this morning and it gave me that feeling like I have a steak stuck in my chest. Crazy. I feel more restricted in the morning when I wake up, so I try not to eat first thing, but this morning I didn't follow my rule and I had the yogurt first thing.

I am on the mushie stage and it is weird how I react to different foods with the band.

I was just banded on the 20th, and I get pain in my chest as well. I am on full fluids, but even when I drink Water I have it and I only have to drink small quantities to get the pain. (1/4 cup) . The only good thing about it, is that I am not hungry when it happens!!!

Good Luck....I feel your pain!!! LOL :)

Personally it didn't take much to make me fill uninterested in eating. And I wasn't 'hungry' very much the first 3 weeks.

We have to learn a whole new way of eating behavior, including the unconscious stuff I believe was developed from the days we gulped our food without chewing much.

Pay attention to what types of food and how mushy/liquid they are when you get your pain. Even liquids if gulped gave me 'the pain' you mention.

Observe, and begin changing your habits.

Even months postOp it took me 5-15 minutes to NIBBLE a soda cracker without that pain. Anxiety about what I could and couldn't eat "ever again" was high.

Training and continual self observation will speed the process by which you learn to manage your Band.

Thank you for your response ,Jack. I think you're right. I also think I must be expecting too much too soon for myself. I'm a bit of a worry wart lol.

Hope you doing well!!

Happy Thankgiving!

You too Roxy! I hope you're doing well also. I'll be better once I get the hang of my band lol.

That's how I am as well,I can definately tell a difference depending on what I eat. I've also been told that there will be certain foods that I can tolerate in the mushy stage that I will not be able to tolerate once I have a fill.

LOL I cracked up when you said that you feel my pain lol. I remember feeling that exact same way that you're describing ,even with liquids.

Congrats on being banded :grouphug: !

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
