Post -op - How long until you feel like yourself again?

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post -op and still in quite a bit of pain. Granted, they found a hiatial hernia and repaired that also. Each day I do get up and stay out of bed for longer periods of time but I think I expected to be fine by now. How long did it take all of you until you felt almost back to normal? I drove for the first time yesterday and my son had to buckle my seatbelt - it was too painful for me to reach to my right. I'm not sleeping as well either because I hate sleeping on my back.

I too kept wondering what the heck I did to myself for a week. However, exactly a week out, I felt like my old self again. It has only gotten better since. It may be a little longer for you since you had the extra stuff going on, but I bet within just a few days you'll be feeling great!

Today is the fifth day sice my surgery! I woke up from terrible sleep (it is very hard for me to sleep on my back),but i got up to go to the restroom and then to the kitchen and i noticed i was not mouning getting up & down. I was walking a little faster than I did yesterday which is alot faster than the day of surgery!! I am on the road to recovery!! Just wish I could have a cup :tt1:of coffee with cream and sugar!!! Does anyone know why that would hurt me??

For me, it was a full week before I started feeling pretty normal again. I would say at the end of two weeks, other than the occasional pulling from the port area, I was back 100%.

I am 9 days post op. I am back to myself but I still have a lot of discomfort from the port spot. I am hoping in the next week to to feel better. :)

I am two days postop and am amazed at how good I feel. I have some pain, some gas pressure, but nothing like what I read others are having here on LBT. I feel pretty lucky. I am not 100%, but I am not miserable either.

My surgery was 16 days ago. Yesterday was the first day where I felt really good. I feel like a whole new woman this weekend - not as tired, port doesn't hurt as much and no longer wondering what in the heck I did to myself.

That being said, my recovery might have taken a little longer since I was laid off two days before my surgery. It was difficult to relax and take it easy when I was worried about how I'm going to pay my bills. That stress is there but at least I'm moving around like normal now.

Hang in there - it really does get better each day.

My surgery was on November 11 and this weekend is the first time since surgery that I actually started feeling better. I am sleeping at night without pain. I am shopping, driving and walking and do not feel overly tired.

Tomorrow is my first day back to work full time at a stationary job. However, I have a 1-hour commute one way, so I am hoping all goes well. I will work three days and then have four days off for the holiday to help my recovery. :)

I've not had my surgery yet for Lapband. It takes a while for your body to recover from surgery. You need to let it heal.

On the coffee. I too am a cup of coffee in the morning girl and have wondered and read on this with lapband. Recently I attended a lap band support group and the nurse was explaining how the stomach lining of your pouch is a bit thinner than the lower part of your stomach. So that anything you ingest that affects your stomach you need to be careful. I know that coffee can irratate your stomach and caffeine can cause you to be hungry. So I'm GUESSING, that this is why most everyone is told "no coffee".

Good luck.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
