Trying to choose....Realize or...

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am in a dilemma as to which band to get. I keep leaning more toward the Realize band and just came from that area on the forum. However, I am concerned that if that band only holds 9 to 10 cc, and people are getting 6 cc and not getting good restriction yet, is there any chance it could be filled all the way and not have any restriction at all? I'm sorry this seems like a stupid question, but I don't have an appointment set up yet with my doc. I will see the coordinator on Friday though. In the seminar, my doc says he doesn't favor either of the bands, he likes both equally. He did state the port was smaller on the Realize, but he says it is basically just up to the patient as to which one they would like. I at least want to have a good idea of which one I want before I do go and see him. Gosh, I hope I get to have this done by the end of this year or early next. Thank you

You're welcome! from that it really does look like they are similar. I have a lap band ap large because that's what my surgeon uses and placed. I liked the "low profile" idea and he told me, very tactfully, that right now even finding the port would be a bit of a challenge but that when I lost enough for my port to stick out he'd gladly switch them out for me!

They do seem very similar. I have been leaning toward the Realize band. I guess what I was sort of worried about is not getting any restriction even after having all the fills possible with it. When I went to the seminar, he passed around both types. I just liked the "look" of that band. I hope things progress fairly quickly from this week on.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
