Take your pain killers! You need to feel good enough to be able to move around. Moving around helps with gas and also with preventing blood clots.

Oh, and welcome to LapBandTalk!

So they put some fill in during surgery? Sometimes that works well but sometimes it doesn't because of the swelling.

Welcome Ace!

Oy, you have pill form pain meds? My doc had given me liquid version codine.. if you have any more trouble, call your doc and see if they can call in a liquid version for you.

Taking the pain meds is the best advice I could give you right now. I didn't take mine as I should (I didn't like being loopy), and by day 4 I had pulled something from holding myself funny and ended up in the ER thinking I had a blood clot in my lungs.. I didn't, but it was a headache to sit in the hospital all that time and for nothing, since they decided I just pulled a muscle (doh!).

Also, make sure you stick to your post-op diet to a T.

It's very important for your healing, and will help you avoid any complications later on.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
