Hi Girls,

I have a "bra" question for you. I understand that after surgery wearing a bra can be uncomfortable..is this true?

If so, what type/style of bra did you wear while healing? How long was it uncomfortable?

Margo

Hmmm...I know some folks here have expressed troubles with bras. I personally never had any troubles. I wear a front hook underwire bra and I even wore it home from the hospital and was comfortable. I think some people have their port placed up by their sternum and that would certainly cause troubles with a bra. My port is about three inches above my belly button so no bra issues here.

Just giving you my viewpoint, I'm sure others will chime in with different stories. I think it all depends on where your port gets placed.

I didn't have a problem at all. My highest incision is about 2 inches below where my bra comes down in the front. I did have to be careful putting it on for the first week or so. I will say that my sports bras have been a little trouplesome because of how wide the band is on the bottom - it did come down to my first incision.

I had trouble with my bra for quite a while, and even now it sometimes irritates my band incision scar. Part of this no doubt is because I wear a G cup, and that incision line is right where my bra band hits.

I wore a sports bra I modified so it wouldn't be too tight for quite a while, or when I was at home, a tight tee-shirt under my other shirts to help corral the "girls."

I wear a regular old underwire and for the most part I didn't have any trouble although sometimes doring that first week or so, it felt better to not have one on. They wouldn't let me wear one at all right after surgury. I had to go home hangin' LOL.

Ok I know this is funny but I totally couldn't wear a bra for three weeks!!! After a week the "girls" were to heavy to support with just my arms any more & a bra was totally out of the question.

So I took an old white tank top & rigged it up in the middle -- I took one barret on one side & one on the other side & attached the middle to either strap going on my shoulder. It ended up looking like a funky bathing suit top but was soft enough to wear & helped get the girls slightly back where they belonged. It worked great for the next week & by then I could wear a bra with an extended strap in the back of it for the next two weeks & than my regular bra after that. Good luck with it!

That's what I have been telling girls for years. lol

Okay boys....Imagine that each of your cojones is the size of a large grapefuit and weighs about a pound and a half......then imagine trying to walk around like that without any type of support.

Case closed.

:)

Heh heh, I have two responses.

1.) Why would we have to imagine?

Brother....if you are walking around with two grapefruits in yer shorts....you've got more problems than I even imagined.....

I am five days out and have absolutely no problem wearing my underwire, back hook bra. My incision is about 2" below the wire, I guess if the straps were too loose it might hurt.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
