Hi All--

Well, I'm getting closer with each passing week. I've attended my seminars, found and met with my surgeon, secured my letter of support from my PCP, gotten additional letters from the therapists I've worked with, attended support groups, passed and gotten my report from my psych eval and I will complete my 6-month medically-supervised program next week. I feel so victorious every time I complete a step.

There are two things that make me nervous. I learned today that my insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office is no longer working there. I know that my surgeon is running a business and to date I've been impressed with his staff and the way the office is run, but I do wish that someone had called to tell me my coordinator had left as opposed to me trying to contact her repeatedly with no success, which led to calling the office and being told that she was gone.

The other thing that makes me nervous is the fact that I gained a few pounds on my 6-month supervised diddy. I called my insurance company (BCN) and was told that the policy doesn't say that I have to lose, only that I have to participate. I just feel ashamed and embarrassed. Why couldn't I lose one f#$%ing pound in 6 months? :D

Anyway, what's done is done and I'll have to move forward. I suppose the worst thing that happens is the insurance company says no and tells me to try it again on a supervised program.

Thanks to all for sharing your stories. It's nice to be connected to such a supportive community.

Best to all,

Beautylocs

Hi Beauty. Don't sweat the slight weight gain on the supervised diet. If you lost great on that you wouldn't need the band. I wouldn't worry too much about the coordinator, either. I'm sure the staff is too busy to call all the patients and let everybody know......would have been nice, though. Anyway, good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
