Starting to think this was a bad choice

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

Okay I do not mean to sound like a "Debbie Downer" but I was banded on August 8, 2008. I have experienced some weightloss which is good, but I have had some issues with my band. I have had a total of 4 fills.. BUT had to have some taken out because I couldn't keep anything down. So it's been a lil over a month since I had to have some removed. Anyways.. with my first few fills I didn't have issues with eating etc. NOW I am having issues... first is in the morning when I drink anything.. omg I have major pains.. like traped gas and its seriously painful when it goes down.. And yesterday I had two bites of pizza (I know.. my own fault..) and OMG I was in such terrible pain for the rest of the night.. I ended up throwing up 3 times.. and today its hard for me to drink liquids.. ahh I am afraid to try food... cause if liquids hurt.. I can only imagine... Anyone have this issue? Or have advice?

Lisa,

I think that you should get in to see your band doctor right away. It sounds like you've still got too much restriction and maybe some inflammation from having too much restriction.

What you've been experiencing is definitely not normal.

Let me tell you... I'm feeling your pain, literally. Thursday I had my third fill and yesterday I took one bite of a pizza roll (bad choice, I know, but I was so hungry) and threw up 8 times. I couldn't even swallow my own saliva. I called my surgeon for an unfill and he was so rude to me. That was the only bite of food I had taken all day. He ended up taking about 1.5 cc's out and I'm so sore. It took them over 20 sticks with the needle to find my port - with two surgeons. Finally they listened to me and let me stand up while they filled it. My stomach looks like a pin cushion on the outside and it's killing me on the inside. They've put me on liquids for the next several days to allow the swelling to go down. Good luck!

Everyone wants alot of restriction, but we have to be careful because too much can be distructive to us and the band. When you are too tight you tend to eat foods your able to get down, which is usually bad food, or liquids that go through the band quickly and do not keep us full for long. During the first few months you should be very careful with PBing, your band is new and you could cause slippage. There is nothing good that will come out of being over restricted, so please call your doctor immediately and get some removed. By the way, alot of people do have problems eating in the morning, some think warm tea helps to open their band. Good Luck and please keep us informed at how your doing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
