2 weeks from Tomorrow I am getting banded!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am a 40 year old Mom of 2, I have been trying to lose weight for almost 20 years, I work at mayo Cinic and they require you to show that you can lose weight before they will recommend you for bariatric surgery. I went to weight wathchers and lost 35 pounds, they have now given me the choice of RNY or Lapband, I chose Lap band, it seems so much more "controllable". I started at 270 and I am not 235, I can't wait to get this done and get back on the road to the new "Mini Me"

Hey Mini Me, I work there too and went through the six month medically supervised diet. Just had the banding on 11/19/08 and I'm doing well so far. How did yours go?

Hello fellow colleague, I am doing well, I lost 16 pounds the first week but things have leveled off now. Do you work in Rochester, Jacksonville or Scottsdale?

I'm in Jax - I lost 10 pounds the first week and nothing since, but I am doing all the right stuff so I'm sure it will come off. It's 23 pounds total since I began the 6-month diet and the pre-op liquid diet....but I think I will definitely need a fill the first chance I get, because I can feel the potential there for eating too much. Sounds like you're doing great!

That's fantastic. Have they given you a pre-op diet? I am in Germany and the GErman doctor has not given me any details for mu surgery. It is scheduled for Jan. 8. I am curious as to how other doctors are doing it. Thanks!

First of all, here we have to go through a six month medically supervised "diet" to get it covered by insurance, but that may not be an issue with you. Two weeks prior, I had the choice of either a liquid diet or a very low carb diet - I chose the liquid and would not do that again! Yuck! It did give me some pre-surgery weight loss, though, and the purpose was to shrink my liver because apparently, obese people have larger livers and that makes more risk for nicking the liver during surgery. Everything seems to have worked out well so far....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
