hi everyone,

My name is Terry and I am 44 years old. I am very over weight and am trying to find a doctor who will take a patient that is over 400lbs . I really need to get this surgery before I become bedridden. If you know of anyone, please let me know.

I was 420 when I first began, at surgery I was down to 398. Dr Ponce in Chatt tn was my surgeon and I even got to do same day surgery. I was self-pay. Surgery date was June 13th and today I am at 347

Good luck

Thanks everyone. I'll call the dr in Oregon.

I live in Raleigh, NC so that would be a hike for me, but if he is willing to do the surgery, I have to have it done.

Hi Terry. Have you talked with any doctors in your area?? Are you trying to go through insurance or are you going to pay for your surgery yourself? If you are going through your insurance, I think they kinda tell you who you can go to. I live in New Mexico and have never even been to NC, but when I went to the NC support page (you can find it on the LBT Home page to the left under "Local Lap-Band Support Groups".... my computer is not cooperating tonight, but when I tried to look for you, the name Dr. Enochs kept coming up with many positive comments. The other name I saw was Dr. Moran. Perhaps you can read through the thread titles and see if they are any help to you. You will probably hear from other NC bandsters who will be able to help you more than I can. I wish you luck. Becky

Hi Becky... Thanks for the info. I went to Dr. Moran's seminar and he has a 400lb weight limit as do many other doctors in the area. Its actually a hospital limit, not the doctors.

If you are going to be a self pay and don't mind traveling, I can let you know the name of my doctor. He does the surgery in a surgery center - not a hospital. I have been so happy with his staff and just love him. It might be worth a try. I sent you a private message - did you get it? Becky

If you don't want to go all the way out to Oregon, there is a doctor is St Louis that specializes in higher BMI patients. His name is Dr. Van Wagner and he works through a great program in St. Louis called St. Alexius New Start. Here is his web site: Heart of America Bariatrics, LLC

While he is not the person doing my surgery -- I have heard great things about him. Hope you find someone.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
