Rash at Port Incision-No coincidence

Recommended Posts

About 1 month after surgery, and before my first fill, I developed an extremely itchy rash over my port incision. I showed it to my dr. , and he didnt think it was a big deal, and prescibed a steroid cream. It helped with the itching, but the rash has not gone away.

Now my best friend, who had her surgery 2 weeks after me has developed the same rash...port incision only. There has to be something to this...even though my dr blew it off, I would like to know what is causing this. I have not done anything different to that incision to cause a rash there...why have we both gotten rashes in one place only?

Has anyone else experienced this, and have you gotten any answers from your dr.?

Thanks for you help!

Did they use glue to close your incisions? I had some ridiculous itching from the glue that they used. My old boss was actually allergic to the glue used for a different type of surgery.

I was allergic to the adhesive they used to cover the incisions, I developed a horrible itchy rash that eventually covered my abdomen like a belt where my incisions were. The port incision being the worst area since it had the largest dressing.

I was told it was an allergic reaction and to take Benedryl and use topical Benedryl. There was no improvement, so I was told to see a dermatologist. There I was prescribed a steroid ointment that worked very well.

It was a reaction to the adhesive.

It is 2 weeks after my banding and I have a rash around my incisions. The Dr. said it was a allergic reaction, so I was thing it was the baby food, I have been eating. It started about the same time. I had my gall bladder out 2 weeks before my banding and I did not have the rash. So, I do not think it was the adhesive. Any one else have an answer?

Allergies and sensitivities don't always occur the first time a substance is used. It is possible that you didn't have a reaction to adhesive after your gall bladder surgery, but now you have developed a sensitivity to adhesive following your band.

I had a rash from the steri-strips I had over my incisions and when I took the ster-strips off because it was so red and painful, some of my skin came off with three of them! OUCH!! :scared2:I had my two week post-op appointment today, and my surgeon wasn't concerned. I've been trying to keep antibiotic ointment on them to prevent infection and help them heal, but I'm sure it was a reaction to the adhesive. I can't put a bandage over them, because it will just cause more rash, so I'm trying to keep everything off of my belly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
