Beth - Less than 2 weeks til surgery! Figure out now what Protein Shakes you can tolerate er stomach. Get it? har har. I didn't take into account just how much I would need for 3 weeks of liquids so I've gone shopping more than I had intended to. My two cents.

Thanks for the two cents. :blink: I actually spent hours on here a few nights ago trying to find out what people thought of different Protein shakes. Lots of ideas, but I did order some sample packets of the Unjury ones. I'm supposed to start my liquid/protein diet this coming Friday. IF my freakin' insurance company will get off their asses and finally approve this thing... Should have happened 10-12 days ago and still waiting. They "lost" my paperwork. Nurse thinks she should get the okay Monday, but Tuesday are a lot of pre-op things that, if I don't have the okay yet, won't be covered. :)

SnT & Beth - not sure if i mentioned this, but my FAVE Protein Shake is muscle milk... it is pretty high in fat / cals but it's very filling.... i drank it daily when i was working my ass off at the gym....

regular = 2 scoops - 300 cals 12g fat 32g Protein

lite = 2 scoops - 195 cals 6g fat 25g protein

(personally, i'd just do the regular for the variety)

if you dont want the regular, they do have a 'light version'

the regular version has a BUNCH of flavors - my fave was probably peanut butter/chocolate and Mocha Latte...

cake batter was WAYYYY too sweet

the light has fewer flavors and i've never tried them, but i've heard they are good!!

i bought mine thru Bodybuilding.com - CytoSport Product Listing - On Sale! Lowest Prices For CytoSport! FABULOUS customer service, fast shipping and good prices... (not affiliated, just happy customer)

but i know Vitamin Shoppe also has it - im sure GNC does too...

I've heard that one recommended too. I haven't had the pre-op conversation with my nurse yet (that's scheduled for Thursday) to see how long after surgery I will be doing Protein Shakes too. If anything I would guess I would use them to help keep my protein numbers boosted, even after I start eating.

Thanks. Luluc also likes muscle milk. A gf bought me a 24-pack of MM Lite drinks in choc from costco. I've only managed to get 3 of them down and the damn pack was $30! :blink: I even bought those Davinci syrups and they don't help enough...for me. I prefer the chocolate Atkins shakes. They have 15g Protein, 1g sugar, 160 cals, but a high 9g of total fat. I figured if I had to be on liquids only for so long, I should pick something palatable. I haven't done any of the powders at all.

yeah... for some reason i dont think the lite would be that great...

regular PB chocolate is great and Mocha Joe (Java whatever) is REALLY good too... even has caffeine in it... if you have a 24 hour fitness near you you can get an individual ready to drink ... yummie!!

so i got an idea from another bandster....take your left over coffee & put in ice trays - freeze.

when i do my shake (on choc/cheese cake kick now) - rather than the avg ice cube - i used the iced coffee cubes for the extra kick / caffeine...

that is if your a coffee lover like me..:(

Oooh, sounds good. But I thought caffeine was a semi no-no. Or does that depend on your doctor?

i guess that would be dr dependent. i had coffee & tea on my post op liquids .... i gave up the diet coke, to take the coffee away would have been just cruel - especially to those around me...in the AM:eek:

LOL! Yeah, I read that fizzies (soda/beer) will probably have to go. Bummer, since I like my Crown in Diet 7-Up... :( I don't HAVE to have coffee. I like it, but I don't go through withdrawals or mood issues if I don't have it like hubby does. Guess I'll find out on Thursday what I can do when I go in for my pre-op visit with the nurse.

Quite right. At this stage, remember the main focus is on healing. The weight loss is but a pleasant side effect!

My doc discouraged it. When I asked "why" he didn't really have a very good answer, though. So now I'm riding the caffeine train again.

Knowing what little I know about caffeine, doesn't it shrink the blood vessels? Would that affect healing?

What about after healing? Guess I'll find out on Thursday what my doc wants me to do. Bummer, too, cuz I got this GREAT honey macadamia nut coffee when we were in Hawaii last month that I still have half of... :eek:

Yeah, it can have vasoconstrictive effects. I'd think that healing wouldn't really be compromised unless the individual already had some circulatory problems, though.

My doc told me that he advises against it because of the diuretic effect (and I drink lots of Water. Lots of water), so I personally thought it was an acceptable risk. Of course, I'm pretty much an idiot, so you really can't go wrong by doing the opposite of what I do...

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
