Is anyone else freaking out about prop 8

Recommended Posts

The more I read, the more I want to cry. It's such a giant step backward, and it's getting so ugly in california.

People are wearing their prejudice loudly. Posting it in their yards. They have collected millions and millions of dollars.

I am so depressed about this whole situation. The really frustrating part is I can't vote for it, since I don't live there.

The part that really upsets me is that they want to change California's constitution. BECAUSE IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL TO TELL PEOPLE THEY CAN'T GET MARRIED SO THEY WANT TO CHANGE IT! And they are winning. My heart is hurting.

It's halfway across the country, but it will feel like it is happening to me. I have told myself that when I get out of Louisiana to more cultured and varied places, that the prejudice will be gone, that it is just because I live deep in the south that people make comments and stare...but it's there. All the prejudice, they were just hiding it.

Is anyone else as upset about this as I am?

Yes, it's depressing. But even with all the money they've spent and plastering signs everywhere, it's very tight in the polls. I still have faith in the people of CA.

What really gets me is how easy it is to change our constitution. That's just whack!

It really pisses me off that they want to mess with the Constitution to enforce their personal beliefs on others. I wish we would add an amendment to the Federal Constitution to make it unconstitutional to amend the Federal Constitution or the Constitution of any state which infringes upon personal choice issues INCLUDING abortion.

As long as you marry who you want and abort your babies on your time and on your dime, it's none of my freakin' business. That's why I DON'T want liberals to make our government more touchy/feely or the conservatives to take us back to Victorian prudishness. Just leave people alone!!!!! ;)

Speaking of being pissed off... I am looking at an ad for Yes on 8 right now on LBT! That's completely inappropriate IMO. Plus it has a picture of Obama on it and Obama has come out against Prop 8.

I say if you can't make your point without lying, maybe you haven't got one.

Thank you for posting about this! I live in SoCal, just joined this board, and cannot believe I'm looking at Yes on 8 banners on this website - especially ones with Obama on them. Yes, he said he doesn't support gay marriage, but he also doesn't support changing the constitution of California.

I was in SanFran this weekend and heard Gavin Newsom speak at a No on 8 service at Glide church - it was truly inspirational.

I wrote to Alex about it, but it turns out it's not anything he approved. It came through the Google AdSense system and these ads were EVERYWHERE on the Internet today. I also saw them on Obesity Help. My husband said they were on some newspaper site and on Macintouch. Those whackos must have bought up every single keyword there was otherwise there is no way they'd end up on such diverse sites.

Macintouch put an apology on their front page:

MacInTouch: timely news and tips about Apple Macintosh, iTunes, iPhone and more...

I think Google is going to get a LOT of flack for this. At least I hope they do!

Okay, last night I got an email from a friend of mine... someone I know casually through figure skating and haven't seen or talked to in over a year. He was sending out an email blast telling everyone he knew to join him in voting Yes on prop 8.

I went through the roof. His entire email was full of every lie the Yes on 8 campaign had put out.

First of all, what made him think that was appropriate to send to me? We don't know each other that well and have never discussed politics. Secondly, I thought he was smarter than that.

This was my reply:

"What utter nonsense. Please delete my email from your address book and never contact me again"

I haven't sent it yet because I wanted to cool down first. Do you think I'm over-reacting?

It's passing. It's not official, but it looks really bad. It's tragic. Honestly, it won in Florida...I expected it too, really. But In california?

I don't mind the voting, I really don't. It's the lies and propaganda that the prop hate people used.

I am a little heart broken today. I'm sitting at work, trying to be positive, but losing CA like that is a big blow for equality.

I have been watching the prop 8 commercials yes and no for a month now everyday. My gf kept telling to just stop watching them but I couldn't. I knew that Prop 8's commercials using logic and equality, were not a match for the tactics the Prop 8 people were using.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcMPaH21d2w]YouTube - Vote Yes On Prop 8...that's a rap![/ame]

Using there children to spread this nonsense. It just makes me sick, and all their lies, it's worked prop 8 is going to pass and I have to stop typing now or I'm going to cry.

Honestly, I though the No on 8 campaign was poorly run. The ads were ineffective and didn't adequately address real fears. I have been saying from the beginning that we need to PERSONALIZE the issue. Make people really aware that a Yes vote is stabbing real people they probably know and like in the back. They also needed to better address the lies.

Just saying "Prop 8 isn't about schools" isn't enough. They never did a commercial where they listed all the rights that marriage brings and that gays can't get in other ways to address the lie that marriage isn't necessary because of the CA Domestic Partnership Act. They never had people tell their tales of how they were denied basic human rights because they couldn't say they were married to their partner of 10, 20 and 30 years.

I think for the next round, I'll get more involved. I'm kind of obessed with my surgery right now so just sent money. But clearly they needed leadership more.

Then, once we get this abomination struck down, the next step is to amend the constitution so that it's harder to amend the constitution!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
