I for one have not had my beloved Diet Dr Pepper in nearly a month siince my surgery. I really thought that would be the hardest part for me because I was truly addicted to them, but after the gas pains I had following surgery for 48 hours were the very worst part of my recovery....they were the only pain I had at all. I was told carbonated drinks would give me gas again and only out of fear of that feeling I haven't had any and really don't miss them. I have found lots of 5 calorie mix-ins that I put in my Water in tons of different flavors so I have gotten used to those just fine.

I gave soda pop up this past February... I did try a sip here and there only to find it disgusting and now I don't even think about it anymore.

Me neither and I don't plan on it. I am not much of a coke drinker but I did like an occasional beer. HOWEVER I don't want gas, don't want to stretch my pouch, etc. Maybe when I'm a year or two out, maybe not. For now, I'm carbonation free and it's really no big deal.

I have drank a few cokes, maybe 2 or 3 since surgery. I didn't like it. It just did not feel right. My stomach felt really bloated. And they just didn't taste the same after months of not having one.

Leslie:

I usually have one diet soda per day. I open it and let it go partially flat, or I stir the bubbles out of it. Sometimes if I don't get enough of the carbonation out of it after I take a couple of sips it all comes back - yipes.

Best wishes to you on your band journey.

Sue

I drink diet soda when I want it.

I do find it hard to drink with food because it can give you that stuck feeling with all the bubbles mixing with the food.< /p>

My doc says it is OK to eventually drink pop. My dietitican says she drinks a lot of Dt. Red Bull. I started drinking some a few weeks out and it is fine. I don't feel very gassy of bloated. In fact, I get much more bloated and gassy from the Protein Shakes I make in the blender than I do from pop. I guess it all depends on how it affects you.

Every now and then I might, I've never really liked soda. I dont like the fizziness anyway. Now champagne, that's different. I've had that more often.

But if I do have a diet coke (which even one sip has me worrying about losing my teeth and developing a brain tumour, lol) I can only have a few sips out of a fresh bottle. Its just too gassy. If its flatter, like after having sat in a glass for 10 minutes, I can drink the whole glass easily. It doesnt cause me any discomfort.

Usually every Friday or Saturday I sit down and enjoy a Captain Morgan/Diet coke to relax. No problems ever with gas.

I was drinking Coke on a regular basis - and never had ANY problem with it, which is why it has been so hard to give it up. I haven't had any in 5 days! I decided to give it up because when I went for a fill on Friday, I asked my nurse (because I never get to see my doctor-haven't seen him in 1 1/2 years) exactly what the dangers of carbonation are, and she said gas and it does stretch the size of your pouch. I could very easily go back to it - I LOVE it more than food - if you can imagine. Good Luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
