I think my scars are infected

Recommended Posts

I am not really sure if this is normal or not. I was banded on the 1st My scars looked really good a few days ago not they are really puffy and almost look like there is a rash on them... Also kinda itch. I know everyone has different skin but just wondering if this is normal for healing or if anyone else had this...

Your safest course is to call your doctor's office and see what they tell you to do. They've literally "seen it all" and would be the best to know if you needed extra treatment etc! Good luck!

blue ~ i also experienced a itchy rash a few weeks after surgery which spread to my chest, not fun at all. I had steri-strips that were still on and the dr. said i probably had a reaction to them and removed them. I treated with some OTC anti-itch cream. It still took a few weeks though for it to clear up. Best thing to do is call your doctor.

At about the end of week one, mine started to itch real bad and I got a red bumpy rash on my chest and stomach. It went away on its own.

I have one that has a surface infection (just under the actual skin), and they've looked at it a couple times. It's draining now, and discusting. BUT it's healing inside out the dr said. So that's ok... maybe a worse scar, but hey they are my battle wounds. :tongue_smilie: I will win the war!

Please do call your dr, and if you think they're infected, please make sure they look at them.

You should go to the doctor. I had one of my scars get infected and now it looks bad, and will never heal the way I would like (bikini ready.)

I posted a ton of times asking questions, and by the time I went to the doctor they had to "dig out" the infected parts, which is why my scar is now huge! (About a a cm wide, instead of just a little line.)

WTF???? Why didn't you write me??????

Please call your doc if you're worried...better safe than sorry. Besides, if they are infected, they'll leave bad scars.

Let me know you're okay...

I think I am ok. I called the dr and they did not seem to be too worried. I have been oding on benadryl and it does seem to make a difference. I think it might be a response to the tape or I am a hyppcondriac

It is very difficult for me to be a drama queen if you don't let me know what's going on

Seriously, though...I'm glad you're ok. I don't know about you, but I feel like I have to be close to death before I call my doctor about anything. I don't know why...guess I'm intimidated and afraid they'll get pissed or something...sad, huh?

Did the benadryl work?

I wish I was that way. I will totally bug the crap out of my drs office. I feel like I need to get my moneys worth. Sad I know. The benadryl does seem to be working or its knocking me out so long I cannot scratch the rash and it has time to heal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
