Hello from Georgia!

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody!

My mother and I are both looking forward to being banded and are attending a seminar on the 21st. I have lots of questions and hope to learn a lot from everyone here. Reading people's stories as a lurker has been very inspiring.

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I am really really really hoping that I will be able to get banded. I have BCBS of GA (HMO).

My bmi is 35.9 but when I looked at the metlife chart, I am around 100 pounds overweight if I look at the low end for my frame size. My cholesterol is slightly high and I have stopped cycling due to my weight. Is that enough to warrant banding? I might have sleep apnea since I snore like a fiend and my knees and heels hurt really bad but I have not been to the doctor about that since I know the only thing she will tell me is to lose weight.

My mother has a whole host of health issues related to her weight and I am trying not to end up like her.

Many of my co-workers have been banded and some of them have had to gain weight to do it. That seems a bit counter productive but if it is what you have to do???:)

hey, me again, iam also with bc/bs of ga. my bmi is 40.7. i am top heavy. i have sleep apnea and joint pains , so due to that it made my walking the trails with my kids kinda painfull. The people on my job has had gastric bypass and the insurance had no problem with paying it, so i hope i have no problems either. i was told if my paper work was completed correctly, i would have no problems , but know these insurance companies these days, but good luck with you and your moms.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
