Love this thread! So many good ideas and encouragement! Now, if we could all just find someone's living room and lay around for a little while together!

My surgery was 10/8 and I'm dragging. I have moments of 'let's go!", followed shortly by "can I sit down?". Got up to go to church this morning and had serious low blood sugar shakes. Mixed up my nectar Protein shake, adding 8 oz Water and about 4 oz apple juice and drank half of it before leaving. I was still shaking by the time we got to church, but having a cup of green tea with a shot of honey seemed to help alot! I still don't have much energy, but at least the shakes are gone.

My Dr. has me on Clear Liquids for 1 week, then full liquids for 2 weeks. I think that includes thin oatmeal, yogurt, cream Soups, etc. That is followed by 3 weeks of not-so-soft foods - anything you can cut with a fork. Gosh - who would have thought that the idea of some runny oatmeal would be so appealing!

Hang in there! This too shall pass (kinda like the gurgling gas in my tummy)!:crying:

Boxer:

It is called "Nectar". It's this giant jug of powder. Mine is Fuzzy Navel flavored. I got mine at The Vitamin Shoppe. I believe you can order it online as well www.thevitaminshoppe.com , I think. It's got 23 grams of Protein per serving, so I make sure I get at least 2 servings a day. (My Nutritionist says at least 40 g. of Protein per day).

I had my surgery on October 8th. I did not blend my cream of chicken but used alot of Water to thin it and did not eat the chicken. I feel kinda achy in my stomach and through my back not bad just aggravating. Has anyone else experienced this symptom? I told my boss I would be back tomorrow and I feel so weak I really don't feel up to it. When did you all go back to your jobs? How long does this swelling last? I don't even know if I can wear my work clothes without them rubbing up against my incisions. I am not hungry that is a good thing.

Whew...am I glad I found this thread!

I have been tired too. I have tried upping the Protein but what the poster said above about the dietician says...that's good, you're burning fat! That makes me happy to suck it up a little longer. :smile2:

I am sleeping soooo much better and longer since I had the surgery too.

GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!!!!!

Hi My surgery was on 10/9. I too have the hunger pains in my stomach. I am tired but trying to walk a bit. As for Protein what helps me is a protein bullet. New whey protein has 42 grams of protein in 3.1oz. I do maintain almost exclusively a high protein diet with pureed chili, and pureed ground beef, Beans, and lots of Water.< /p>

I didn't start feeling better until I went to mushies, finally this week. It was hard getting all of that Protein in during the liquid stage, but I thought I was doing good.

As far as the ticker, click on anyone's ticker and it will take you to a site. After you make your ticker, copy and paste the first url in the box and put it in your signature. The signature is done the same way with a different site.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
