Flu shot during first tri?

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd write about my getting pregnant. I have been banded one year and the surgeon says I can keep my fills in as long as I'm not having trouble.

In May I turned 34 and thought good grief, I just don't want to wait any longer to get pregnant......but I am not married. So.....I made an appt with a fertility doc and found a sperm donor through a bank.

I called the doc on my start of period, 7 days later I started ovulation pee sticks, then I got a positive and made an appt with the doc for the interuterine insemination.

First try did not work, second one BINGO!

I am now 8 weeks pregnant and have seen the baby twice on ultrasound.....everything looks good so far

Question: in your first trimester did your doc say it was ok for the flu shot? I work in a hospital and the fertility doc said yes, get it, and the ob doc said NO! not until after first trimester. I am worried about the flu as I am around sick people all the time.

Studies from march of dimes and hopkins say it's fine during first tri......just curious what you were told?

thanks

I keep hearing I should get the flu shot, so I asked my OBGYN this past Monday. This week is my official '2nd trimester', she said she does not want me having it in the 1st trimester, so she told me to wait another 2 weeks so I am 'safely' out of the 1st trimester.

Whenever there are so many differences of opinion on the risk, it makes me want to err on the side of avoiding the shot.

I am going to ask my ob doc on Monday, but unless there is a definite . . . you really need this, I am going to forgoe the shot this year.

No one insisted besides my husband, I think he heard radio commercials..

But I asked my OBGYN about it, she said pregnant women who get the flu are high-risk for hospitalization due to complications because their bodies can't handle the flu as well. Pnemonia is one of the risks.

The flu is actually what put my mom into labor with me, she and my dad had the flu horribly and she thought all of her labor was just sickness from the flu.. I was crowning in the car and born in the lobby by time they realized it wasn't just the flu.

I understand your concern. I have a child as well, so have been through pregnancy and all the risks associated with it. Please just look into what is in flu shots. If you go to www.mercola.com and put flu vaccine into the search engine, you will come up with a lot of info there. There are other places online you can look it up as well, I'm not saying this is the only site, just one I recommend for things like this.

From all the reading I've done, I'm convinced that flu shots don't actually do any good. It's hard to predict what flu strain is going to occur when they make up the flu shots, so you may get a shot for a strain that is not even around.

Please don't go just by what your doctor has told you. Do your own investigation into what is right for your body. Look into the risks of the flu (or any other) vaccine and see if you like all the toxins that are in them and if you think it is healthy. I wish I had done that when I was pregnant, and afterward when I was vaccinating my child.

I saw my OB yesterday and had my first ultrasound. She highly recommended it and even said it would also be a good idea being banded because a lot of uncontrolled vomiting in a short amount of time may not be good for my band. She also mentioned that our bodies are not as able to handle the flu during pregnancy and it increases risks of hospitalization.

So I read about the risks of both getting and not getting the shot and I understand them. I have decided to get my flu shot.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
