Allergies! Phlegm! Help!

Recommended Posts

:ohmy:It is allergies season and I have had my fourth fill which brings me to 4.5cc in an 8 cc band. I just got off an antibiotic and was just given cough medicine for the cough and a nasal spray for the nasal drip. I take one zyrtek a day as well.

I have major plegm which seems to be blocking what I drink. I can get some down but not much then it gets blocked and comes back up. I seem ok after I drink something hot but it builds up again. It does seem to get better everyday but it is hard for me to get my meds down that I need to take everyday.

How do I get rid of the phlegm? has anyone else gone through this?? Will iot get better or am I going to feel this way through the rest of the season??

Thanks:ohmy:

I have problems with allergies too. Plemgm can clog the stoma and create all kinds of problems. I have recently started using a Neti Pot and it is working wonders! For the first time in years, my nasal passages are clear and I am not taking my allergy meds anymore (I was taking Flonase and loratadine). My headaches are almost gone too. Its certainly worth a try!

What's a neti pot? i have seen signs at the pharmacy for these. I too have bad allergies and wonder if phlem sometimes makes my stomach hurt at night time. What does the neti pot do?

A neti pot looks like a little magic lamp and you fill it with warm, salt Water and pour into one nostril at a time, letting it wash away mucus, dust, pollen, etc from your nasal passages. You can google "neti pot" to find lots of information on it. Some people use a syringe or other device to do the same thing. Try it - you have nothing to lose!

OMG!!! Thank you all for the allergy advice and question... I came on here looking to see if I may have been having problems with the port or something, but after reading your posts, it's my allergies!!!

I have been having so much phlegm and sometimes I can't keep some foods that I had no problem with before down. I know that you tend to have a lot of mucus, but this hasn't been the ordinary.

Do you also have problems with the amount of food that you can eat. Another words, before I could have about a cup of Soup, but since ragweed season I can only get down about 2 tbs worth. Then it feels as if it's been sitting in my chest. And other times I have to make my sick to get it out.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
