Port Question

Recommended Posts

I have a question about the port site. I am 3 wks out from surgery, I saw the Dr last Fri and he mentioned that my port was just under the incision (above my belly button). Now I know that Dr's put ports in all kinds of different places. I noticed tonight a firm area around and above my incision that is a little sore and kinda egg shaped and that size. Has anyone else noticed something like that? I wasn't sure what it was, thought about calling the nurse tomorrow. It is only tender when you palpate it, so I don't want to have to go in if this seems to be a common occurance. Thanks for any advice.

I can feel my port and it gets sore if I poke at it. I have felt it since losing my steri-strips (always standing up), so imagine my surprise today when they stuck me a good 6 inches lower and did my fill!!

Well, the higher "port" is actually scar tissue...and that's why it gets sore when I push it....Doh!!

I must have been delirious when I posted this last night.

I should add that the PA told me that I was likely feeling my port up high, too...it moves when you lie down (as the muscles move). it's not 6 inches lower...it's about 3.5 inches lower.

Sorry for the tired post....LOL

I had the same thing happen to me. The egg shape will go down in about a week or so but don't be alarmed if you find the whole area bruising. I have been told that everyone goes through this and all the swelling and bruising goes away in about 6 weeks total.

Thanks guys, that makes me feel better. I figured that it might be scar tissue or something to that effect. I have lost a few inches in my waist area so I think I am feeling it more now. I have always felt the "lumpy" area, but I just noticed that the area was sore when touching it. The funny thing is it doesn't hurt when you feel for it while laying or sitting. Again, thanks guys.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
