Taking the steps to a better life...

Recommended Posts

Just came from my 2nd month weigh in and have 4 weigh in months to go. As I go through the process questions arise, am I going to succeed. I have never been skinny. I want to know what it will be like to be healthty and not tired all the time.

This month I actually gained 1.5 pounds from my original weigh-in. I was told to try and maintain my weight otherwise my insurance wont pay. Dont people know that is the problem? Weight loss. Weight stability. My lowest weight in the past 12 years was 238lbs. I was actually that same weight in 7th grade, so sad. My current weight is 264.5 with my highest weight in the past 15 years being 281.

The past month I was enjoying the crutch of the upcoming surgery. I am now back on the band wagon. Stability is the mantra. Does anyone have advice? Did anyone else take my same journey. It would be nice to have a mentor. All the people around me are either heavy and dealing with their own struggles or thin and not understanding how it is not simple ... JUST STOP THE SWEETS.

HELP

Who told you ins won't pay if you don't maintain? The insurance company? or someone else?

I was not told by insurance. What I told exactly was...

If I gain too much weight the insurance will say that I am not committed to a change.

If I loose too much weight the insurance will say see you can do this without the lapband.

Is that not true?

My insurance did not require 6-months pre diet. I don't know if it's true or not; that's why I'm trying to see WHO told you that? IF it wasn't the insurance company, then I doubt it. Call your insurance company and ask them. You need to take charge; it's your health on the line. What you were told may or may not be true, so go to the source and see. I've never heard, frankly, of an insurance co. requiring a 6-month supervised diet to MAINTAIN weight, but then I am not an authority on your insurance! :) Call them. Find out.

I wouldnt call them!! My brother and sister in law had to both do a 6month diet ( i didnt) and they both tried to lose like 2 -3 lbs or maintain the same weight in 6 months so it can show the insurance company that u did try and u do need the band to help u lose weight...u dont want to try to lose alot of weight durin that process or u may have a hard time being approved. Try to maintain or lose a couple pounds here and there

Why shouldn't she call to find out what the insurance company wants? It is good to be proactive in your care. If she gained 1 1/2 pounds and is scared she won't get approved, what does it hurt for her to find out? She's the consumer, it is her insurance. She has a right to know what they look for! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
