I posted this in the Intro Group but figured I would post here as well since I am definitely in this group...

Hello,

I am in Richmond Va. and just went to the group seminar Thursday and am going to call to schedule my consult tomorrow...I am very excited yet nervous about this...

I have a severe amount to loose - I weigh somewhere over 500 lbs - so I have a very long journey ahead of me...

I have been reading a lot of the posts on here...I find it interesting that people try to keep it a secret from family and friends...

I guess I am lucky...my mom encouraged me to attend the seminar and even went with me...as I get closer to having the surgery I will probably tell my close friends about it...I know they want to see me loose the weight and if they know my situation they can help keep me on track when I am with them...

Yes It will be a long journey, but it will be worth it in the long run. I had my consultation on May 19, 2008 and i weighed 409, banded on Aug. 27th at 377 and as of my 1st fill Oct. 1 I'm at 361. I have gone down two sizes in clothes and have alot more energy already. My family and friends all know and have been very supportive. I am more ashamed and disappointed with myself for getting this big than having to get banded to lose weight. Best of luck to you and your journey!!

I am trying to find some unbiased reviews of lap band procedure. I live in Ontario Canada and find my GP completely non commital. I currently weight 350 pds, my BMI is over 60, I have developed Diabetes, sleep apne, high blood pressure and high chlorestoral. All he keeps saying is exercise and eat less. Easy for an asian man who is 6ft tall and problably weighs 150pds soaking wet.

He had his secretary quickly check to see if procedure was covered by OHIP (which as I have read here, is not) and left me to find my own way.

I am now in touch with Barix Clinic and hope to have procedure in the new year.

Back to my initial question --- Everywhere I look on the internet brings me to sites that are infommercials for the various clinics. Can anyone recommend an unbiased site.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
