How long did you guys all wait for insurance approval?

My paperwork gets faxed into my insurance tomorrow. I am hoping it will take only a week. My doc's office said most likely it would be two...but they've never delt with my insurance before so they don't know for sure.:tt2:

I have BC/BS of MN. My doc faxed my stuff Sept 3rd and I was approved Sept 22.

It was weird after the first week I called to make sure they had gotten my paperwork. The insurance said no, so I called the doc just to FYI them. They doc called and said the insurance said yes they did and they were in the process of making a decision. That was on Sept 16th.

All and all not so bad. I'd say if you don't hear in a week and half or so, follow my path and give them a call. Good luck!

I have Horizon BCBS of New Jersey. It took a week to get approval. The speed may depend on the documentation you provide of your past weight loss efforts. Good luck!

Did you guys call the insurance and find out or did the dr's office call or did you get a letter in the mail etc? When it comes to this kind of stuff I am a total idiot.

I called everyday from day one. I called to see if the fax was received on Friday morning. By Monday morning I was denied. I resubmitted my own paperwork via fax and a letter a week later. It took about a week from the second time to be approved. I actually called my surgeons office to tell them. You have to be your own advocate. It is not being a pain if you call everyday to "check the status of your request for approval'. My insurance company was more than happy to help me out. I will have my fingers crossed for you Froggi. It has been interesting to read your posts and it will be exciting to be on this journey with you. Good luck!! Tamara

I called my dr's office first. They called me back to advise of the ins approval. Two days later I received a letter from my insurer confirming the coverage. Call your dr's office and see what the status is.

What insurance do you have? Cigna took only 5 days for me, even though other people had horror stories. I think it helps that my BMI is so high and I have several co-morbidities. My co-worker got declined at the same time, but she is smaller than me, and now is going through appeals. Good Luck!

Just to let you guys know. My paperwork was faxed to insurance October 7th. On october 9th I got an email saying they needed more info called and asked what it was etc. They wanted a complete copy of 6 month diet not just a simple version. So i had my nutritionist fax that in and they had it on the 10th. On the 10th they finally sent everything to be reviewed because they had all of the paperwork I called daily starting the 7th lol they seemed annoyed...a bit but I don't care. I called yesterday expecting to hear call back next week it's only been a week because on thursday they said its only been 4 days LOL well I called and turns out I was approved that morning. They said they sent the letter out so I hope to get it on Monday and make my appts on monday to finish up this process to get banded. YAY :tongue_smilie:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
