Surgery on Tuesday. Little bit Scared.

Recommended Posts

My surgery was on Tuesday morning 9/30. I was released from the hospital today. I don't have a lot of pain other the the gas pain that everyone reports. My problem is that I can't keep anything down. Not even Water. Anything I drink makes me sick to my stomach & comes back up. Anyone else have this problem? My doctor says that I shouldn't worry & give it a couple of days. Anyone have any advise.

Hey, Lenny, CONGRATULATIONS! I'm glad to see you posting so soon.

I've heard other people with this exact same complaint. Evidently your stomach has swollen more than expected. It will pass, in time, and the important thing in the meantime is to see if you can take in fluids. Try the tiniest sips possible. But don't be blind to signs of dehydration--stay in touch with your doctor!

Please post again in the morning and let us know if you're able to drink. TAKE IT SLOW, but do try to drink Water. Tiny sips, remember. No chugging!

Suck it up Lenny! Just kidding of course. Us males are for some reason not embracing this surgery like women are, so I had to slip into male mode for a second. I have enough storage on my body to carry me for a while food-wise, but the no Water thing would trouble me. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to head to the ER for a healthy IV if I was feeling dehydrated. Hopefully things are better by now - are they??

Bob

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
