Newbie from Mississippi: Surgery in 8 days...

Recommended Posts

Hey Ya'll,

Just wanted to say I'm really loving this forum. I have been reading posts for several months and finally had time to stop and register to be a member.

I will be banded on October 6, 2008. I have done all my pre-work for the surgery. I am currently on my 2 week liquid pre-op diet which consists of 3 SlimFast Optima shakes a day; and all the sugar-free popsicles, Jello, tea, crystal light, and Water I can stand! Doesn't that sound YUMMY!!

I've done pretty good, but I have cheated a few times with grilled chicken. This is starting my second week and I'm going to try hard not to cheat at all. I would really like to lose 25 lbs before surgery. I've lost 13 so far...so maybe I will be able to do it!

Please say a prayer for me....I'm excited; but nervous!

Thanks for being such a great support system already!

Hi and welcome! Just make sure you don't "cheat" on whatever post op diet your surgeon gives you; if you eat food before it's allowed it can cause your band sutures to pull lose, cause erosion and or slippage, etc!

I cheated on my preop diet and didn't get my band the 1st time because although I lost 15 pounds my liver was still too fatty, but I think my situation is pretty rare, so you will no doubt be ok! Just toe the line post op so your band can heal properly!

AND....>Welcome!

Thanks for the advice! Gosh it must have been awful to have to go through everything again....

So far, I haven't cheated at all this second week! Only 6 more days until surgery and I'm sooooo ready.

I definitely will stick to the post op diet....Just from fear of having it not work...I'm a self pay and can't imagine if I did something to mess it up. Plus I'm flying out of town 2 weeks after surgery so I better healthy enough to fly b/c the tickets are nontransferrable!

From your ticker it looks like you are doing fantastic! Congratulations 41 pounds is a big deal!! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for welcoming me!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
