Your two cents please

Recommended Posts

Anybody want to add their two cents it would be greatly appreciated. I had my second fill last Thurs. It was only .08. So now I have 6.08 in a 10cc band. Last weekend had company in town and celebrated two family birthdays. Friday we had pizza. (I could only eat a slice and a half) Saturday night, my favorite steakhouse, where I ate Prime Rib and a salad. Sunday brunch consisted of quiche, bacon, fruit. So all weekend I was fine-no problems. Monday nothing. Tuesday my work did a cookout. They fixed all the hamburger patties in advance and then served them in a steam tray. I was about 4 bites into a hamburger patty and got the feeling.:bolt: Like I swallowed 3 lifesavers at once and it was just sitting in my throat. Ended up in the bathroom, throwing up the burger.(I'm thinking it was too dry)That night I had hamburger helper with no problem. (Plus I have had hamburger before.) Wednesday at lunch, no problem. Wednesday nite went to Red Lobster with a friend, had salad, crab legs, flounder and a baked potato. No problem. Took my left over flounder to work on Thursday, two bites in and bad feelings.:tt1: Kept it down, but lots of spitting due to the buckets of saliva that kept invading my mouth. Feeling passed. Had a Protein bullet. Today at work, I took the last of the hamburger helper left overs. Once again, a couple of bites in and nope, it's not going anywhere. So to the bathroom I go, and up it comes. Tonite I fixed chicken on the grill. Boneless, skinnless, with BBQ Sauce. I cut half of a breast and put in on my plate, ate a few bites and oh no, Lifesavers again. Lots of spitting in the sink but I was able to take my mind off of it and it passed on. But miserable with back pain and everything. SOOOOOOOO, the question is: Is it possible to be filled too much, but still be able to eat and have no problems some of the time? I just assumed if you were too full you wouldn't be able to hold ANYTHING down. I go Wedn. for another fill, although it may be an unfill? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Susan

Well, I don't know if this applies to your situation or not but here's my two cents. If I'm socializing or really hungry then I forget to chew well, that's when I can feel it getting "stuck". If I chew and chew and chew then I can eat anything- pizza, steak, etc. I get bored with all the chewing, it ALMOST makes me want to quit eating. If I chew correctly then my food is stone cold by the time I finish it. Hope this helps.

Here are my 2 cents....I struggled for 2 months with my last fill. I kept going back and forth between was I too full or not, should I get a slight unfill or not.

Some days I could eat fine and then others I couldn't get egg drop Soup or my Protein Drink down with PBing.

Over the last month I couldn't eat 3-4 days a week and only lost 6 lbs. in 6 weeks.

I went to my surgeon and he asked if I was in need of a fill because of my slow weight loss. I told him I thought I needed an unfill and explained my situation.

He proceeded to take out .5cc and you talk about relief. I wish I had not struggled for those 2 months. I now realize how miserable I was whenever it was time to eat!

Don't wait too long if you think you're too full. I wish I hadn't. I've gotten too run down and now have to build myself back up. :bolt:

You didn't mention it, but how well are you chewing? Are you cutting your food into very small pieces? I do not think you should get another fill Wednesday. I think you should pay extra attention to chewing for a few days to determine if that is the problem. If that helps, I would hold off on fills for a while to see how it goes. If that doesn't help, consider a slight unfill.

To answer your actual question, yes it possible to be overfilled and be able to eat anything and never PB (in my case). I developed reflux for several months and the meds weren't helping. I eventually had to be completely unfilled for a while. It was instantly better.

Good luck.

At first I thought maybe I wasn't chewing enough. But I made a concetrated effort to pay close attention and chew really well. Now maybe my bites haven't been exactly small. But what about the times when I didn't feel bad. I don't think those bites were any smaller. Today I fixed a couple of scrambled eggs for Breakfast, and started to get that same feeling, and I barely had 1 egg. I'm going to ask them when I go in on Wed. and see what they think. They didn't seem like they were going to be PO'd if I had to take some out. Next weekend I'm going to California for a wedding and I definately want to be able to enjoy myself. :bolt:

That sounds like a good idea. I recently had a fill and went back a week later and had 1/2 cc removed. It made a big difference. You're probably very close and a very small amount will make all the difference.

Have a great time in California.

My two cents (and very much un-scientific)...

I think I have more restriction in the early part of the day than in the evening. Can't prove it and I'm sure the medical staff would consider it a bit looney, but I have had problems eating some things at breakfast or lunch and no problems with the same food in the evening. Beef, no matter what form, by itself is almost always a problem, but fish never is a problem.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
