Hi everyone!

My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 1st. It's right around the corner. I've been on a liquid diet for 7 days now and have already lost 12 lbs in prep for the surgery. I am so excited, but nervous at the same time. I just can't wait to be on the other side.

Wahoo!

Shanna

Congratulations to both of you. We look forward to talking you you as post ops. Hang in there with the liquid diet. It really helps jump start your post op life. I know not everyone is put on it (I think if they think you may have a fatty liver, it helps to shrink it for the surgery). I ended up on it 3 weeks because I caught a slight cold 5 days before surgery and they moved the surgery back, but only a week, not enough time to stop and restart. They let me have a small amount of lean Protein up to 4 days before surgery. I either had 2 hard cooked eggs, or 2 unbreaded chicken tenders, both with salt and pepper. Aside from that the closest I came to cheating was eating a few unsalted peanuts from the bag I carry to feed the squirrels as I walk in the park. I dropped 25 lbs before surgery (besided the 10 on my 6 month diet for insurance). The rest is since surgery.

Good luck to both of you. Take advantage of all the services--group support, dietician and the like. This is the beginning of your new life.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
