I heard of a woman having a slip due to popping her stitches from lifting something too heavy.

Hi Watcher,

I had a flouroscopy on Friday and it was discovered my band had slipped. The signs something was wrong with me was two weeks ago I had really bad acid reflux, persistent coughing and waking up in the middle of the night gagging and vomiting in sleep. Was I too tight? I was able to eat 3 meals a day, drink my fluids and exercise with no problem. When I called dr's office two weeks ago and told them I could still eat solids and drink the drs asst told me it didnt sound like I was to tight but I did not feel right and I couldnt get rid of the coughing and acid reflux. That is when I had the flouroscopy. I go back in 3 weeks for another flouroscopy to see if the part of my stomach that rose above my band goes back underneath. If not, I assume I will be getting a revision or band removal. However, I'm hoping to be able to keep my band! I had my lapband surgery in March, 2006, have lost around 85 lbs and never had any problems until this past spring when it seemed I was getting filled and then unfilled just trying to find sweet spot. Don't know if this answers your question, but just wanted to let you know that for me, I didn't feel too tight and didn't have trouble getting food down, it was the acid reflux and coughing that triggered my concern. I should note that my dr said that a slippage only occurs in around 2% of people with band? How honored I feel to be among the chosen few! lol

ps: I exercise 5 times a week.. (jazzercise cardio and walk) and my dr. assured me that exercising had nothing to do with a slip. Sometimes it happens if the band is initially to tight to being with, if you are tight for tooo long, etc etc etc but said that exercise doesnt factor into it. Funny, that is the first question that came out of my mouth while I was in hospital on Friday... If any of this had to do with exercise.

thanks that gives me a good idea... i haven't had acid reflux since getting banded which i guess is really good seeming as though it used to wake me up from my sleep. i cheated on my post op diet. not completely i just bent the rules and i was a lil paranoid about every little feeling and pain... so i get my first fill tomorrow so we will see what happens.

Gee, that really has me scared now. That is exactly my problem. I am fine in the day time. At night, I cough and something comes up. I am going to support group tomorrow and I am going to tell the nurse I want a test.

When I called about this, she gave me nexium and said not to worry about it. Now I can tell her in front of all the new people that someone here on LBT was just like me, fine in the daytime.

Thank you so much for posting this.

I am going to have an x ray of my stomach next week. I hope they are able to tell if I have a slip from that. They said an x ray of my stomach is

$75 and flouro is $400. I have to pay out of pocket anything band related.

Hi Denise... Glad you are getting an xray. Are you still having your symptoms? If so, are they getting better, worse, same? It's worth knowing if something is going on. Let us know how you make out this week.

I go back this Friday for another flouro to see if the part of my stomach that rose above my band went back down. I'll let you know how things work out here too. I will say.. it's been wonderful having no acid reflux, no coughing, no issues for these past 3 weeks... Even if I did feel like eating anything that didn't move! Thank GOD for exercise!

I was told they can't tell much just from an X ray. I thought my problems were better but my bf told me last night that I was coughing a lot in my sleep. I am just like you where i have no trouble what so ever in the day time. This night time coughing and choking seems to come and go.

I see the dr. wednesday.

I do not mean to scare you, I just don’t want you to waste money. Here is my story:

I’m 7 months after surgery and lost some weight, however, it did not come easy to me… I do not remember having one meal and I mean even a cookie, without vomiting right after. I had an esophgram done at a location close to my work (so I did not have to take a day off) which came back ok. However, when I vomited even when my band was at 0cc, my doctor had me take the esophgram at his place (hospital) which detected a slippage. So, if I would have gone to the hospital immediately I would have saved at least 6 weeks of vomiting... please, take care of it.

New Life New Times

So you see, I have a surgery scheduled within two weeks. Here is my question: what is going on with you? did it fix itself? Should I wait and see if it will fix itself – my doc. Said it will not. Also, is this surgery like a regular LB surgery with five incisions, with the pain, gas, and all the other “good stuff”? if I chose to hold off on the surgery, how long can I live with a slippage before fixing it? How long do I need to be on liquid (before and after)?

And, most important, what are the lesson learned that someone can tell me so this will not happen again?

I appreciate any input and every advice I can get.

Oh I did. I had an esophagram and the barium would not go down so I had to have 1cc removed. It's been nice this past two weeks to not have any problems at night. It seems so strange to me that just like Newlife, I had no trouble eating anything, nothing got stuck and I never pbed in the daytime. It was just this night time coughing and gagging.

I have no clue how the food was going through when the barium couldn't . It must have stayed in my esophagus for a long time.

I see the dr. tomorrow so I will have a lot of questions for him.

My band didn't slip and my pouch was not dialated. I am just going to have to have more willpower now, because he said he does not want me to have any more saline. I am not sure if that means never again, or what.

I really want to get my band removed and get the sleeve. I wish it had been out when I got my band. I wish I had another 12 grand so I could do that. with the sleeve, there is no aftercare. You have surgery and you are done, no fills, nothing to worry about.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
