This is mildly rant-ish...

I like the center that I am with but jeez this is taking forever!

They have so many hoops I have to jump through before meeting the doctor and all of the appointments are 2 weeks apart. My info session was over a month ago. I just got a call that I'm finally meeting with the doctor next Wednesday. That's great but they also told me that I have to wait another 2 weeks before they schedule surgery because he has to write up a report for me before they schedule it. And, I have to do Optifast for 4 weeks so the soonest we're looking at is the week before Thanksgiving (and my son's 2nd birthday). :crying: I may push it out until the beginning of Dec. just so I don't have to try to entertain right after surgery. I just hate this waiting! I'm the type of person who deliberates for a while but once I make my mind up, I am ready to GO!

Thanks for reading. Just had to get that out...

Seriously, if you feel the surgeon and staff are pretty sluggish in responding, you might want to rethink having your surgery there....

once you have had your band placed, will they be more responsive? Will you have to schedule fills a month in advance? What if you have unresolved pain, or swelling, or other issues? Confirm to yourself that they will be there when you need them....this pre-op lollygagging may or may not be an indicator that they are over booked and over burdened. Only you can decide, but I think you would be wise to

make sure you can get quick care if you need it!

I think their slowness comes from the fact that the center operates independently of the surgeon. They all make their own appointments but they share files. My fills will be with the surgeon (he has office hours on Wednesdays) and my support groups and general check-ups will be with the center. Throw in insurance requirements and you have yourself a nice long wait.

But who am I to complain? At least my pre-op diet is "only" a month. :crying:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
