Less restriction with fill

Recommended Posts

I was banded a month ago and had my first fill a few days ago. 3ml in a 9ml band. I haven't felt any restriction yet and in fact I feel less restricted than I was before the fill. Is this normal? How many ml does it take before you reach a sweet spot on average?

Exactly what I went through. I had way more restriction before I even had a fill. Then nothing and was just starving all the time. I called the doctors office and they said it was unusual to have "less" restriction after a fill. So I got to go in 2 weeks after my first fill for #2, she only puts in 1 cc at a time, so I thought and was hoping it would be better and I wouldnt feel so starving...no luck! I go back on Tuesday for fill #3 and i'm hoping I at least get some restriction because right now i'm doing all this on will power, I could eat alot more than I do, but I wont allow myself to do it. So hang in there, I guess everyone is different from what I keep reading, we'll get there! Call your doctor to see if you can get in earlier for another fill.

I feel for you amonroy; we're in the same boat. I think I'm going to contact my doc.

I've been reading on the forum about a "Delayed Action" meaning it can take a while before you feel the restriction from a fill. Has anyone experienced this? And could someone perhaps explain how that works?

I am in the same boat. I had 3cc in a 10cc band, and I can eat anything. All the "trouble foods" I can eat w/out any problems. I am also keeping portions small, on will power alone.

I called the office and they said they will get me in earlier than my scheduled appt. for the next fill. Call your DR and let them know what's going on. Seems by reading the threads, that it may take a few fills, and that everyone is different. GOOD LUCK.

Hi everybody, Yes, all of these reactions are normal. There is one poster on here that I love who took 5 or 6 fills to reach her sweet spot. Some people take even more fills. I just had my 3rd fill and I swear I have less restriction than I did from my 2nd fill. I now have 5.4cc in a 10cc band. I did notice that after my 2nd fill that I did have that delayed reaction that you asked about. In the beginning I didn't really feel any restriction and then toward the end of the 4 weeks (my doctor requires 4 weeks between fills) the restriction finally kicked in and I lost 6 lbs. I don't know how to explain this in physiolgical terms like what exactly the body or more specifically the anatomy is doing during this delay. That is why I am hesitant to recommend that you get more fills until your body has adjusted to this one. Each fill seems to take some adjustment time. We are all in this together-- this gives me comfort.

OMG...thank you so much for posting this. I thought I was going crazy. I had my first fill about 3 weeks ago and have less restriction and am eating everything in sight. I kept wondering how this could be happening and was getting depressed about it. I finally called the doctor last week and I have an appointment on Tuesday for another fill. I hope this one gives me the restriction I need!

As you are only a month post-op I don't think it is a surprise that you have less restriction now, even after a fill. Is it possible that you had restriction post-op for a while because of the healing process itself? It may take a few adjustments to get that feeling again.

I was banded 5/21/08. Have had 2 fills and now have 4cc in a 10cc band. I definitely have some restriction again, but am not at my sweet spot yet. Sometimes I feel more restriction than other times. It just depends on the day.

I am having the same problem,I had more restriction after the surgery before the fills.I just had fill 3 now I have 3.5cc's in a 10cc band and little restriction ,the only problem I have is bread.I think the difference after the surgery we had swelling and this made us feel more restricted now all that is gone,so we have to try and get back there.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
