Recommended Posts

Its been 9 days since my surgery and I am getting better, still a lil tender around the port. I cant wait till that is healed. I lost 6pds whooo hoo. But I am tired of liquids, that is driving me nuts. I am so hungry for real food. Yea, not mental hunger, just some damn texture! lol I am not hungry after my shakes or liquids for some time. Just sick of the limitations. I will be happy when i am on soft foods and regular food. something different for a change. The other thing, is sinse i am broke and healing I am bored out of my mind! I cant even eat out of boredom! lol I cant wait till I am healed so I can have a life of somewhat?! anyway i am just venting! :) Oh I did get up wrong and pulled a muscle.. that hurts!!

Well, I don't know what you wanted to 'play' but you should be able to get out and about. I was pretty much back to my normal routine except lifting after week 1. Football is definitely out! LOL!

Maybe a day at the park or something? I don't know what the weather is like there... or a day at the zoo. Walking is good for you. Maybe a boat ride or something...It might get you out of your 'rut'.

I had already added in easy solids the first week, mashed potatoes and gravy, scrambled eggs with cheese, even went to Taco Bell and had a MexiMelt (very slowly) on my 4th day since I was going out of my mind for 'real food'.

Not suggesting you do that, but it worked for me.

Why does your doctor have you on liquids so long?? - most docs have liquids for 1 week after if that long.

Why can't you go out and play? Just take it easier than normal -- not sure what you mean by play, but by day 9 you should be able to do most things that are not strenuous

All doctors are different. Some doctors prescribe liquids only for up to 4-6 weeks! They have good reasons...just ask someone who's slipped their band...so FOLLOW YOUR DOCTORS ORDERS.

yea no kidding! I dont dare eat! lol.. I mean I am going to add cottage cheese, yogurt and pudding, liquids aren't sticking to my bones for very long. Yesterday I had a Protein Shake and an hour and half later i was starving. I am suppose to have purreed foods starting Wednessday, but I will slowly start a couple days early.

I am fine to move around and stuff. I am just broke and the park doesn't appeal to me unless i can bike ride, i cant walk fast yet. I just want to go shopping, out to dinner, movies stuff like that! My husband wants me to fish.. but i havent felt like it! lol

As for the person eating already?? WOW... I wouldn't dare and they dont sound like very healthy choices? Are you eating alot?

doctor also has me on full liquid diet for 4 weeks. She said it has to have a constistency of yogurt or thinner. I as well have been going stir crazy. I have been eating Soups adding in dried egg whites, cream of wheat, which is good with a teaspoon of splenda, yum, and protien shakes to give me my needed protien. WHen i eat I can only take like 7 sips before I feel full. I am only on my 5th day post op tho. I did blend up chili with some Water which was mighty tasty. I figure when im working it will be easier because Ill be busy most of the day. Im considering making a homemade Soup but not sure which one yet. sugar free Jello is so yummy to me right now. Im going to get some sugar free pudding too as one of my freebies allowed. I cant imagine eating solids already, I just dont want anything to happen to my band. Besides the weight loss im acheiving now is worth me waiting the 4 weeks. I know how you feel tho, I am getting bored with the normal choices of just protien shakes, they almost make me gag now going down lol. My coordinator said to make sure im being creative with my choices.

Since I haven't had the band yet, I guess I wonder how filling you feel eating such tiny amounts of blended foods and etc. Like 2 oz of chicken salad and 2 oz of blended green Beans. How full do you feel without restriction 3 weeks post op.

I mean it sounds like you would feel mucho hunger. Am I wrong?

Hey, For the gal that said she has to be on liquids for 4 weeks, I am sooooooooooo sorry that you do! Just 2 weeks for me! And I am almost done. I cheated and added cottage cheese to my diet. I know not much of a cheat tho. I just needed something to chew! I also added low fat ice cream. My Dr. said whatever will fit in a large straw.. anyway the just liquids weren't lasting long. I would have a shake and a lil over an 1hr later stomach yellin at me. So I knew I was ready for purreed stage. I heal fast, always have. So, I will begin pureeing my foods. Since I ate 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and 4oz of yogurt yesterday, I stayed full for 3 hours. So deff an improvement. I have lost 7 pds since the surgury.

And for the lady who hasn't had the surgury yet, you will stay full off of 2oz of chicken and 2oz of whatever! They say they want you to have 1cup of food each meal, and a small snack if you are super active. It averages out 1200 cals a day.

So far I been averaging out 500-1000cals a day, which is wonderful to actaully stay full off of that! I couldn't do that before surgury. They had me on a 1500cal diet a day. I cheated everyday. I cant stand going to bed hungry! I mean when I did cheat, I didnt pig out, but there was no way that I could do that. I for the first time in my life have staid on a low cal diet with no issues! I love it! :cursing:

The pre-opt and post-opt diet was the hardest part for me. Mostly the post-opt. My big life saver? Walking around my neighborhood with my dog. Good for me, good for her. If you don't have a dog, borrow a neighbors. They will be grateful!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
