What did you put on your scars after surgery?

Recommended Posts

My doctor recommended not putting anything on the scars after surgery. He said they will heal nicely without putting anything on them. I have old scars that still show. Did you put anything like Maderma (spelling) or vit E on them after surgery?

I don't plan on ever wearing a bikini, and I do plan on having plastic surgery when I lose enough, more scars. I'm actually proud of my scars! LOL BUT I can see how younger women wouldn't feel that way. I'd go to a dermatologist and ask what to do. S/he will probably want you to wait until you are healed before putting anything on them, but can tell you the best product for your skin type etc.

My Dr. said to use Aloa Vera or Vit.E oil. Hope this helps.

I had my two week check up this week, and my doctor recommended Vitamin E or aloe vera to help with any itchiness (not having any), and to help with healing. My incisions were glued, and he said it would also help remove any residual glue. I have a great skin lotion that has both ingredients, so I've been using it twice a day for three days, and the sites do feel better. I had another laparoscoptic surgery, and the scars with staples and stitches, and the scars left are just tiny white lines. I hope these heal as nicely.

When my husband had hernia surgery, he used "Auqafor" on his incisions. You can hardly tell where they are now. I am using "Auqafor" on mine. So far they look very nice.

I dont know if you guys have this brand in the US but in Australia we have a brand called Bio Oil and it is for stretch marks & scars.

I have been using it on my scars and I can see an improvement.

Check it out, it's not expensive at all.

I had problems with straight Vit E oil. Try Bag Balm- it is at your local Joanne's or Hancock's fabric store, and some drug stores. Some nursing homes use it on any sign of redness that may turn into a bed sore. Quilters use it as their hands dry out with handling the fabrics. i use it on any red, chapped area. might help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
