How much is too much? how fast is too fast??

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone... I am having some "inner issues" and I wanted to get some feedback from you all.

I had my surgery on March 7th,2008

As of today Sapt. 19th 2008 I am down 75lbs.

I didnt think that was alot of weight although my doctor as assured me I am "way ahead of the game". My goal was to lose 100lbs and I am almost there. My question is am I an ABNORMAL case? has anyone else lost this much this quickly? Is this too much too fast?? I feel fine and other than still mentally adjusting to NOT overeating. I am doing ok.

Anyone else with "significant" weight loss in a short period of time??

Just curious....

Darn I just had a nice long reply and internet explorer ate it! ANYWAY 28 weeks, 75 pounds, (and if you lost some of that preop then this number would go down a bit...) that's 2.67 pounds a week. That's not wild. Assuming you are younger (you didn't post your age) and assuming you are eating adequate Protein, taking Vitamins, etc. then why worry?

I had surgery on Feb 28, so I'm just shy of 7 months post-op. I've lost 101 lbs. I just checked and it has been 29 weeks since my surgery, so that's an average of about 3.5 lbs per week, though my recent average is about 2 lbs a week.

I say as long as you feel good, are getting adequate nutrition, and not starving yourself, you're fine. I've had a couple of people tell me that I'm losing too fast and I just laugh. I feel better than I have felt in years, I'm healthy, I'm active, I'm well-nourished. I didn't set out to lose this much weight this quickly, but I'm happy that I have.

I don't think its too fast. I am about 9 wks post op and have lost 48 lbs. This all being after the lap band was placed.

But remembering that some of the time immediately post-op is for recovery not loss, that is a significant (but not unheard of) loss. It also depends on how much you have to lose in total - someone who has to lose 200 pounds will initially lose more than someone who may need to lose 50.

Bottom line - if you are healthy, and your doctor is not raising any flags, then accept it - and rejoice!

You're doing great! You've lost about 13 pounds more than me, and you had your surgery a few days before. I think you are probably losing a litle faster than most, but as long as you are getting enough Protein, veggies, etc., then you should be very happy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
