 Hello all,

Just checking into info on this surgery. Do I want to do it? Any input is appreciated. Yes, I need to do it. Any input is appreciated. I'm 62. Am I destined to be the saggy baggy body? With fibromyalgia, most excersise is not done without great pain. Thanks for any input.

Welcome Kathio,

Only you can figure out for sure whether this is right for your. It takes work and is not for everyone. It is just a tool to help keep you from being hungry and overeating. You still have to watch what you eat, maintain the fills and exercise as much as possible.

If you have been successful in losing weight in the past but just couldn't keep it off then the band may be for you. If you have never dieted, are not willing or able to eat less and cut out certain foods then the band will not likely help you. Some people have food/mind issues that can be resolved with the Lap Band and counseling together.

Your height and weight are important too. You need to have a BMI over 40 or a BMI of 35-40 with weight related health conditions in order for most insurance companies to cover it.

The saggy skin thing depends on the individual and age. It is possible that your skin will not completely snap back. You have to decide whether you can live with that possibility or get plastic surgery to get rid of it.

It has been working great for me and many others here but there are some that are not able to make it work for them. You will learn a lot here and feel free to ask specific questions while you reasearch it.

Good Luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
