Should I get a fill yet??

Recommended Posts

I was in last week and the nurse told me to schedule a fill for 2 weeks from now. I am 4 weeks out from surgery, but haven't yet been able to eat more than 3-4 oz at a sitting, am almost never hungry (only on the rare occasion that I wait a LONG time between meals- like 6 hours) and am having a hard time getting in even 700 calories.

I am losing weight rapidly. I emailed the dietician but she is out of the office due to some personal issue for a few days (I think she needed to go see family out of town for an emergency.) Anyway, I am hesitant to schedule a fill, as I have to take off work and everything, just to go and then find it makes things worse.

BTW- I have never PBed or vomited or anything. I had no restriction during surgery.

Make the appt, but cancel and don't get the fill if you are only getting in 700 calories per day and you still aren't hungry, you already are below where you should be. Try to get up to 1000 calories per day so your metabolism doesn't think you are starving. I actually stalled my weight loss for 2 weeks until I got up to 1200 per day.

You seem to be like I was, and you actually have some restriction from the surgery. Like I said before, make the appt., because you may actually find you are getting hungry sooner two weeks from now. That is what happened to me. I did not need the appt when I made it, but needed a very small fill when the appt day arrived. I have a 11cc band that they normally fill with 3-4ccs for the first fill. I only got a 1cc fill and I am still doing fine with that. I will probably make another appt for a month from now and go if I need it, and I wil cancel if I don't.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
