Looking for a Buddy to keep me in line.

This is my first post ever, I've been a lurker.

I'm feeling like I haven't made the best use of my band. I was banded May 2006 and have, in general, been successful. I've lost 85 lbs. The problem is this, I'm a horrible eater. I guess in the last 2 and a half years I've figured out that ice cream never gets stuck, therefore I eat ice cream almost daily. I use the excuse that I can't eat much of anything else. That's a lie, of course. I've become lactose intolerant since banding... so the ice cream kinda comes right back out... I think thats the only reason I haven't gained the weight back. Help! I want to get back on track!!!

Currently, I weigh 193. My goal is 150. I want someone to be accountable to and vice versa. Even though I'm struggling with my eating habits or really, its a eating disorder, I think I can be supportive of other banders too. My eating is emotionally based, I need to remember that and stop reaching for the ice cream instead of dealing with my anger, fear, depression, etc.

A little about me, I'm 39... almost 40, ugh. I live in South Saint Paul, MN. I work fulltime in adult mental health. Also, I'm currently attending college to get my Master's degree in Social Work. I have 3 daughters, twins that are 18... their out living on their own and my youngest is 5, she just started Kindergarten. I'm married and we enjoy boating, camping, etc.

;)

Hi Sherry,

Thanks for the message. Of course, I would like to have you as a buddy. How are you doing with the band? Losing 10 lbs a month seems like it is going great.

I have reached a plateau, well, I've been about the same weight for the last year. I just had a fill about a month ago but not a lot of change other then more heartburn. I think more heartburn may mean its a little tight. I have to go back in and have it checked out.

Hope to talk with you soon!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
