Re- fill and check-up

Recommended Posts

Well tomorrow morning Iam headed down to TJ to see Dr. Ortiz for a check up for my bowel obstruction surgery and to be re-filled. It will be exactly 2 months since my surgery. I am so excited to be re-filled and get going again with my weight loss, it feels like a fresh start. I have been on a 2 month haitus. Luckily for me in the last 2 months I have been able to lose 5 lbs and not gain any weight, it has been a struggle, trust me! It will be very interesting if I can be filled to 2.5 'ccs like I was before I was unfilled. I do not think I will be able to not because he will not do it but I do not think I can jump to that level of restriction rgiht from the get go, I may have to start off slow, who knows but I am excited. I will post tomorrow afternoon and let you all know how is goes.

Good luck! I'm anxious to hear how it goes! I think it's great you can "start fresh" like this with no fill. I'll bet you won't need your old amount to get good restriction, but it will be interesting to find out. Have a great trip!

Hey Michelle - just thinking about you!

BTW, Ive been meaning to ask you this...

prior to your bowel obstruction, were you having ANY problems voiding?

This might be a little technical, so if you want to pm me with your response, thats fine! :)

Well, Iam back. Everything with my check -up went fine. He wants me to come back in October for another endoscopy to re-check everything

Dr Martinez was pleased with my healing progress and was alos pleased to see I had lost 5 lbs in 2 months with no Fluid in my band. I did get a fill, he gave me 1cc. . I asked if he was going to fill me to where I was before I was unfilled. He said that would be too drastic of a jump, he actually put in 1.3 cc's and saw under fluoro as I was drinking the barium that it might be a little tight to start off with that much so he backed it off to 1cc. He said in 2 weeks if I did not feel like it was enough to come on back down.

He said my esophagus looked great and told me I could stop taking the prilosec that I was taking for the gastritis.. I am excited to get going again with my weight loss :)

I'm on liquids for 3 days.

Yeah!! I cannot wait to go down and see Dr. Martinez (LOVE HIM!). Actually, I can't wait to eat solid food, then go see Dr. M.

I am so hungry. One week until solid food. YIPPEE!

Happy for you Michelle. Let us know about your fill. Have you ever been overfilled by Dr. O or M? I have concerns about bveing over-filled.

Have you ever been overfilled by Dr. O or M? I have concerns about bveing over-filled.

No I have had 4 fills including todays fill, 3 of them from Dr. Martinez and 1 from Dr. Ortiz.

Dr. Martinez is very good at giving fills. I will not go to anyone else, he is painless when he access my port, Dr. Ortiz calls Dr. Martinez the master of fills, so far I have been very pleased with my fills from him, I have always felt restriction from my fills, it has never been a case of not enough, nor have I ever been too tight. You are in good hands, let him know of your fears of being overtight, I had the same fears, this is why he backed off today from 1.3 to 1cc'. I knew today was like starting over and my first fill last June was 1.1 so I felt comfortable with 1 cc today. I can all ready feel a difference just in how my liquids are going down.

Great news Michelle!!! I am so happy that everything went well and all "the parts" are in good working order. I just had my first fill and only had to do one day of liquids...boo hoo on three days. Hang in there. I did find something interesting to drink though. It is a recipe by Dr. Kelly Fitzpatrick for "sustainable energy" when you are on liquids. I omitted the cayenne pepper.

Here is the recipe from www.gastricbands.com by Dr. Kelly. It sounds strange but the lemon and ginger are really tangy and tasty.

Master Cleanse Drink (adjust lemon, ginger and cayenne to taste)

4 oz of apple juice

Pinch of cayenne pepper

¼ teaspoon fresh grated ginger

4-8 TBls of Lemon juice

4Tbls of Maple Syrup or Honey

Pinch of salt

top off the blender with filtered water

Blend till mixed

Strain and drink ½ - 1 Quart a day

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
