Hello fellow banders. My name is David and I just had my surgery on Monday 8 Sep 08. I have been really sore but still excited about my new life journey. I have already lost 15lbs this week. I am very strict on following the diet as well as the Water intake and Vitamins. A little about me. Iam a retired Marine and Army Soldier. I spent 25 years in the military. I fought weight with bulemia, phen-fen, ephedra, many miles of running, and every diet ever available. I decided on lap band after I gained up to 357lbs only two years after retiring from the military. I am now down to 320lbs with the pre-op and post-op eating plan. I will need support as there are times I struggle with anxiety about failing in the long run. Your posts have been my inspiration over the past several months and I thank you for being openly honest about the positives and negatives of the Lapband surgery. I hope to offer insight as well and look foward to success with each of you. God Bless:thumbup:

Welcome David!

Sounds like the discipline that served you so well as a Marine (Semper Fi! My older brother was a Marine) and an Army soldier (Hooah! My son was in the Army) will serve you well in this journey. You have proven that you know how to lose weight - you lost 30+ pounds BEFORE surgery!

Congrats on taking the next step to improve your health. My hubby is retired Navy (21 years, Submarine force) and has picked up a little since his retirement 7 years ago, but he's working his off.

Welcome to the site - I haven't been banded yet (waiting for the process to run its course) but I'm anxiously awaiting the tool I know will make the difference in my life.

Good luck to you in your journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
