Pretty Tight Fill (again), Does sodium effect your tightness?

Recommended Posts

My friend made a valid point yesterday:

I was filled last Thursday to 2.6 in a 4cc band. I feel pretty tight. Still on liquids after a week. I'm living on Isopure protien drinks and Organic Soup with sour cream plopped in it. (So I'm getting my Protein, fat and some carbs). I complained that my restriction hasn't steadily gotten less, its getting tighter. She said, "Maybe its all the sodium in that soup you're eating!"

A light bulb went off... do you think this could be true?

Thanks!

Hi,

I have 2.5 in a 4cc band and it seemed to tighten up some after the fill until about 6 weeks later. I'm sure the sodium could have some effect on the tightness but if you can't eat solids by now you might want to consider a slight unfill. My Dr. wants you to eat normal after a fill and doesn't suggest liquids or even mushies. I know this is a little unusual from what I read but it seems to have worked for me. Just remember this is not a quick fix and you will be eating this way for the rest of your life so don't make it too hard. Good luck your weight loss is amazing.

Sally

PS: I was banded in Mexico also.

Wow, that is interesting. My doctor always says Clear Liquids for one week. She had me go across the street to TGIF (in TJ Mexico) and order cream of broccoli Soup and an iced tea. I had about 3 TBSP of the soup and that was it! I went back to the lab and had another barium, she said, "You're perfect. You don't need any taken out at all!" I said, "Ok, I'm not coming back here for 6 months, so if its too tight, next time you see me I may weight 68 pounds!" haha...

It losens up later in the day. Today I could have Clear Liquids at work. I got home and had soup and I just ate ice cream WITH NO PROBLEM BY THE WAY! haha... Sometimes I think I'm so paranoid to eat wrong that I put off getting to my mushies and I shouldn't do that. Another flaw I have is when I get use to having little restriction and I'm not chewing as a bandster should, when I do get filled, I have lost the bandster habits. So, I have to remember to chew good... I think I'll bring Beans to work tomorrow and try that.

Thanks for the advice. BTW - Where did you get banded?

Dana

I've never been told to do liquids or mushies after a fill either, I go rigth back (carefully) to regular food.

If it hasnt resolved after a few weeks, and you're uncomfortable with it, then you probably need some Fluid out.

But yes, excessive sodium can affect your band - if it makes you bloated (which it does me) then you will feel tighter most probably.

Hi,

I was banded in Tijuana by Dr. Francisco Gonzalez. It was a great experience and I think he did a wonderful job. I am getting my fills locally and that Dr. seems to be very good and really "with it"! I don't have a ticker on my signature, haven't figured out how to do that. I started at 245 and weigh 202 now. Hoping for that last 3 lbs to go fast so I can be in onederland. I know how it is with the ice cream. Some times you need the calories so that your body doesn't think you are starving. At least it doesn't have much salt in it! Keep up the good work. You might be set right where you are and not need to go back anymore for fills. That would be great!

Sally

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
