I am having trouble with my stomach but I am not sure if it from my lapband.

1st of all, I take an eighth of caynne pepper daily in 2 oz of OJ. It is a natural pain reliever and anti-inflamitory. I am about 3 months post op. I just started this regine again about 3 weeks ago.

I am thinking that Sour Cream is something that I cannot handle any longer. I had a baked potato and put a little sour cream on it. This has happened to me twice. I ate it about 1.5 to two hours before going to bed.

Well in the middle of the night I am waking up to my stomach ON FIRE!!! As if someone has dropped a match in my stomach and I cannot put it out.

I have taken Pepto Bismol, Maalox, Cold Water, and Ice Compressions on my stomach. The first time this happened, I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital becase non of the above worked and it had been 2 hours. I finally vomited and all of that up and at the very end, there was a sour taste (sorry don't mean to be gross)

Then this happend again last night not as bad as the first time but I had had sour cream again about a few hours before going to bed.

My only concern is that the sour stomach burns like the dickens. I am not sure if this is band related, Cayenne related or that is how it is when I have a sour stomach. I could not vomit it up last night. I actually tried to throw it up, but I could not. Today, I have had my stomach grumbling and diareah all day.

All I had was Water today. I just recently had about 1/4 cup of 15 bean Soup but I started to feel as if I was going to vomit. I kept it down, but I think I will stick to water. The time before today, I did not not eat for two days, I did water only. I will not sour cream again but just curios if anyone else has experienced this burning sensation with a sour stomach.

Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.

I am not sure exactly what the problem is but I do not think it is the sour cream. I think it is the orange juice and cayenne pepper. This is my theory and mind you it is just a theory based on what you wrote: I think the acid and cayenne hang out in your pouch because things are restricted now where they just used to go straight to the stomach and intestinal system. The burning is from the acid and pepper mix. I think you may have to find something else for the anti-inflam and pain. Again I could be wrong but you might want to experiement. Try your best to NOT vomit you do not want any kind of slippage this is very bad and I would hate for anything to happen to you. Also try not to eat anything right before bed (maybe a sugar free popsicle but only something like that, nothing heavy enough to require sour cream)even if it is a few hours, the food hangs in the pouch for a lot longer now and when you lay down with all that just sitting there the possibility for adverse affects are inevitable. I hope this helps a little let me know how it goes and good luck.

Thank you for replying. I was thinking that I might not be able to do the cayenne anymore. This does not happen often but I dont want it to happen again. This is very painful. I could not help vomiting the first time but the second time i did induce it because I was in so much pain and wanted to feel better.

Thanks for the advice.

You are having either heartburn, acid reflux and could possibly be setting yourself up for an ulcer. You need to start taking a Proton Pump Inhibitor. You can buy Prevacid or its generic Omeprozole over the counter. There are also several prescription PPI's that you can take--Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex ect. I'd get on one of these medications ASAP and hold off on the OJ and any other offending food until you have one or two weeks of these medications on board.

There is no need to suffer, these drugs work well!

It sounds just like heartburn or reflux in which case, orange juice and pepper are probably two of the most irritating foods you could eat right now. The sour cream would likely be more of a soother than anything.

Heartburn is miserable, I'm lucky only to have suffered when pregnant. I feel for bandsters who battle with this. I found over the counter meds useless, when I was getting through a 500ml bottle of double strength gaviscon every single day I knew it was time to head to the doc for some prescription meds.

Hi, I was just banded on Aug. 27th. My doctor told me not to drink OJ at all and I got the impression it wasn't cool to drink very often. The acid sitting there isn't good for you.

I really hope you feel better. I'd go to the doctor if you don't get better. Try some Protein Drinks.< /p>

I was going to say too it probably is the OJ and cayenne pepper...even though it is liquid I would certainly ask your doctor if it would be ok to be drinking that, but it sounds like your body is telling you to stop anyway.

Just an FYI, OJ isnt good for us, it increases the blood sugars. Several doctors I know have said if you want fruit eat it, dont drink it.

Hope you have no more bad tummy problems!

You may need to have your doctor send you for an ultrasound to see if your gall bladder has stones. Everything you describe is typical of gall stones. The sour cream has fat (even the fat free) and triggers the attack - anything with fat will if you have stones. That sour taste is very typical of gall stones, as is the late night pain, etc. Almost 80% of people who have the band or bypass have gall bladder issues. For bypass patients, their rate of gall stones is SO high that many surgeons actually take out the gall bladder at the same time of the bypass to prevent future problems. You have also lost a lot of weight in a short time, which is also another major cause of gall stones. Check with your doctor to have an x-ray or ultrasound - even the tiniest stone can cause horrible pain. My mom went thru this about a year ago. Her symptoms were identical to yours. As a nursing student, I forced her to give up the Maalox and see her doctor. Two stones the size of a pencil lead, but that was all it took!

oh yeah that is another issue I forgot about - gallbladder! Definitely could be. i have had that issue in the past, not related to the band, but it was yucky. I would definitely talk to your doc about it.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I really dont think that it is my gallstones, I am pretty sure it was the acid from the OJ and the cayenne. I have not had a problem since my original post. I guess that I will not be able to use this natural remedy any longer. I realy appreciate everyone.

Good luck!

Orange juice definitely gives me heartburn, can I get heartburn easy since banding where I never really did before. Sour cream is definitely soothing as is plain yogurt for me. I haven't tried the cayenne on its own but I do eat in Soups witout issue.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
