Getting Banded 09/15/08- Need some support

Recommended Posts

So... I have been approved for surgery and am scheduled for the 15th. As the day gets closer I get more and more nervous- I have never had surgery before. I am still up in the air with which band to choose, lapband or realize- And I'm struggling with the thought of never being able to eat the same way again. Obviously everytime i look in a mirror I am reminded of how important this surgery is but I can't help feeling nervous and anxious...ANY thoughts?

Great you have your surgery date!!! I was also very nervous, but as the day came closer I became more comfortable with my decision, although I did not have the option of which band to get. I can actually say that I was more nervous about my first fill than the surgery, maybe it was because I would be awake for it. Neither of them was worth all the worrying over. Your eating choices will change, but it is something you can become accustomed to. I was raised on meat and potatoes, and all the good stuff that goes with them, I've adjusted and I'm sure you can too. I can say that I don't really miss walking away from the table stuffed any more.

I can't even start to think about the fills yet, lol I need to get past the actual surgery  I am looking forward to learning how to eat healthy and to not always eat EVERYTHING on my plate... I want to gain that full feeling and I think I can live without all the meat and potatoes, at least I'm hoping I can

Angie remember too that once you've lost, you can occasionally have meat and potatoes, just like "Thin" people do now. You'll be full on less, but you will be SATISFIED! It's a win-win.

I will be banded shortly after you (9/29) and am in the same boat. Only I have had surgery and kind of know what to expect. I had a really bad experience with my first surgery which is causing major anxietey. However, my second surgery was a cake walk. I'm not worried about pain just nervous about anesthesia. That's the worst part for

me. :frown:

I too, am trying to decide on which band. Right now I'm leaning more towards the realize band. How about you?

I am stuggling also with thought of not being able to eat the same afterwards. I think we have to remember though that we will be able to eat almost anything with time. Just smaller portions of course.

Yeah I think at this point I am more leaning towards the Realize- I think both are really pretty much the same from the research I'm doing

The anesthesia is really bothering me- I know I'll be fine but I hate that I have never done it before and I really have no idea what to expect. I am really looking forward to the weight coming off and maybe finally gaining some self confidence. I know I will be able to eat all the same foods in smaller quantities but the last few days I must admit I have been thinking about all of my favorite foods over and over again, like I'll never be able to have the, again:sad:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
