can anyone tell me how much this banding procedure costs if you do not have insurance. I am new to this and have not seen any quotes of prices for the surgery.

Thanks a bunch

In the US or out of the country?

I was banded in MX and it was $8950, plus I had to pay the airfare and some spending for food/drinks/tips. All hospital, labs, Pre-op testing, surgeon fees, the actual band, hotel, transportation to and from the airport, was part of the deal. Other MX docs are around that price, give or take a few thousand, I'd say.

In the US, I have heard prices as low as $10,500 and as high as $25,000 or more.

Good luck on your research! Ask questions, do lots of reading. Folks here are really nice and helpful.

Hi HeyNice,

I recently attended an info session at George Washington University Hospital, and they quoted a price of $19,000 for the lap-band ($25,000 for lap gastric bypass). If you're in the Maryland-DC metro area, GW has WLS information sessions once a month (fourth Thursday of the month).

Hope this helps!

Pansy

Hi, I had mine done in Mexico with Dr. Rumbaut for 10,100. That included hotel stay and pre-op tests, a consultation with the nutritionist...airfare wasn't included, and also spend around $90 while I was there buying food, disposable camera, tips, etc. I looked into 2 companies that offer financing, but the interest rates and fees are freakin' ridiculous!!! My husband gave me the money, and I will be eternally grateful. I saved about 2,000 and he gave me the rest. I put the airline tickets on my credit card....it was all worth it, though!!!!!!!

I used Dr. Joya in Perto Vallerta, Mexico. I am very pleased with everything I received there. Everything was very sanitary, I think more then my experience with hospitals in the US. I went alone, without knowing any Spanish, and did just fine. Enough people speak English. I brought $200 extra spending and had some left when I got home. I even stayed an extra day. The cost was $8000 all inclusive. This includes all the pre-op tests, the surgery, anesthesia, plane, hospital stay, and hotel for one night...which was on the Pacific Ocean and was a resort! Nothing scary about this although most thought i was NUTS for going to MX alone. The only thing I had to do alone was get back to the airport, and even that was simple because one of the valets caught me a taxi. Nothing more was really over $5, except for room service. That was about $9. Good luck with your search!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
