has anyone had a problem with a stitch coming out through a healed incision? I had my incisions closed with glue, and had a stitch poke through yesterday. Wondering if this is a common problem after surgery.

This happened to my son after his hernia repair (he was an infant at the time). One of his stitches hadn't dissolved and it became infected. The doctor just popped the incision back open and removed the stitch, then reglued the incision.

My husband also had a similar experience a few years ago. His was with a regular stitch not a dissolving one though. A portion of a running stitch broke off and stayed behind in his arm. That little spot wouldn't heal and the stitch finally worked it's way to the surface. He pulled it out and it healed right up.

I'm not sure if either of those experiences are helpful to you. I'd call my doctor just to be sure!

Yes, I had that happen twice. One incision I noticed had a white thing on it and I scratched at it and noticed it was a string. So I tugged on it and it was firmly attached inside, so I snipped it and shoved it back in. Everything healed fine. Now my other incision, he cut into an old scar (gallbladder surgery) this one has taken forever to heal. It would look ok, then get all red and raised. Upon further inspection and squeezing, yellowy puss stuff came out. I was told that a stitch may be trying to work its way out. They suggested to put Polysporin on it.(apparently this is different from neosporin. It actually draws out the stuff where neosporin just clogs it up) But still from 2 weeks post op to yesterday, I was still having problems with it. Granted the incision was getting smaller and smaller in the opening, but was still having a discharge. Well as I said yesterday, I saw something after the "stuff" came out. It was a little piece of string. I pulled it and it came right out. It was probably about 3/4" long. Now the incision is less again and hardly anything comes out when I squeeze on it. Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be careful not to pull it. I did and it bled--a lot! I used manicure scissors to trim it after the bleeding subsided and let it be to heal. Just don't pull it. I'm all healed up now--8 1/2 months later--and no signs of my idiocy left behind.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
