Curves??

Recommended Posts

I went to Curves as my MIL's guest back in 2002 or 2003 (obvs pre-band). I felt it was a total waste of time. The workout, even in my completely unfit state, was incredibly low-impact and I didn't even break a sweat. If you have been working out regularly in the past few months (GJ on your weight loss, BTW), it's probably not going to be for you. If you want to try it, they usually offer a free trial or something if you just go in there and ask- if they try to make you join without a trial, just say, "oh, well, I don't want to spend money on something I haven't tried" and get up to walk out, I gaurantee you they will give you at least a few free visits.

I'm going in for a consult next Wednesday. I sat down and tried one of the machines when I went in this past week to talk to the owner. Really, it's up to YOU to "break a sweat." You can go as fast or as slow as you want with the machines - that's how you decide how hard it's going to be for you. If you didn't get much out of it, then whoever was supposed to be the personal trainer there really failed you by not working with you on getting better results.

I did kind of a high-rowing machine and only for a few seconds as fast as I could and it tired me out. And I'm not in god-awful shape.

Anyway...I do agree with the free trial thing - that's very important because not every workout will work for everyone. I think I'll like my particular Curves because the lady seems really involved and she said that they get your starting weight and measurements and then measure you as you go along. If you're not losing, they work with you to find out why. I also like that it's only women there.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I like Curves very much. I am very, very lazy about exercising and it is perfect for me. I was a member for a year and I was tired of it. I joined a regular gym and I hated it. At the regular gym each machine required you to set 2 or 3 things on it. I did not like remembering and setting all of that stuff. So I quit and went back to Curves. You don't have to set a thing on the machines. You are in and out in 35 minutes. So fast I don't even mind it.

I joined Curves and I love it. I have learned how to challenge myself. I do a full min. on the machines and do extra rounds on the circuit. I go about the same time on the days that I go and I have a met a circle of friends who encourage me and makes the time go fast. I personally like it.

I joined Curves in January and I really like it. I have been a member of a regular gym and I like Curves much better. The women that I have met there are great. The circuit is what you make of it. I know some days I get a much better work out than other days, it is all up to me as to how much I get out of it.

I have been going to Curves for about a year now and love it. The Curves I go to has the computerized machines now - it keeps track of your progress and tells you when to stop based on your previous workout. I can see on the computer screen which areas I need to work on and also how many calories I burned. I have tone up a lot since starting. I go 2 - 3 times a week and it only takes about 40 minutes. I will be 2 wks post op on 9/9 and I am going to go back to Curves this week but will be taking it easy on anything involving my torso.

I love Curves. As has been mention they have these new machines that track your form and effort and kind of egg you on to improve. I like the monthly weigh in and Body measurements it keeps you mindful. I find the environment encouraging and the workout efficient.

If you have the option see if there is one in your area with the stretching machine. I Looooooove the stretching machine!!

I agree with Steph co, I went to curves (pre-band) and the harder you work it the better you are. When I was really dedicated to it I lost around 12 inches all over and went down a pants size. It is like anything else it works well if you work it! I didn't loose much weight at all, but did loose a ton of inches. I did try to stay on the machines a little longer (1 minute) if there weren't alot of people that were behind me. I can't wait to get back to it with my new band. Hope this helps. For anyone else that has done Curves how long after surgery did you wait to get back to it?

I was able to join curves when I was 3 weeks post-op. I did though need a note from my dr. I agree with what everyone says about curves- it only works as well as your motivation. I have been going for almost 1 year and I have to say I am getting bored. But i also went from a size 28 to an 18 and it's not just weight loss I've only lost about 50 lbs. Curves is really helping with firming and i'm getting much stronger. Also at the center I go to you don't have to join for a year they do have month to month-it costs a bit more but at least your not locked in. Also the new curves smart program is much better as momcof3 says you really can see the results and work out accordingly. So yes I would recommend curves but like any exercise program it can get monotonous.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
