lapband=deceit and bullsh**t

Recommended Posts

There are doctors who will do WL surgeries on someone only 35 pounds overweight??

I am really sorry that you are having such a hard time. Dr Fielding is my surgeon and I find it uncomfortable that he did a lapband on you when you only had 35lbs to lose. I would never consider having it if that was all I had to lose. I lost almost that prior to my surgery. I know he is really well known and very expensive so you must have really wanted it. Did you try to go through insurance at all? I knew a lot before I had the surgery and everything that is happening, I fully expected. Between the psychologist and the nutritionist, I felt very informed and prepared before hand. I have had great experiences with him, he is very kind and willing to explain everything. He has even worked with me with a great $ discount when he does my fills because he dropped my insurance after I had my surgery. He is not a greedy, arrogant man in my view. Have you tried to talk to him and express your concerns? He actually fit me into his schedule to accommodate me and he has been nothing but wonderful.

As many have stated here, the band is just a tool and it is up to you how you use it. If you get totally unfilled, that may make you feel better

and you will be able to eat. Good Luck!

And for a dentist, "Drstan" really can't spell, has pretty wild grammar...I sense a troll.

You beat me to the punch! I thought the same thing... I tend to not say anything because I'm a bit anal on that... should have been an English teacher! LOL!

As for a reply to the Dr.'s post...

As a doctor, or even not a doctor... anyone getting this surgery or any surgery should research. I checked into this surgery almost a year before getting it done and understood completely what I was committing myself to for the rest of my life.

I am even self pay, that's how sure I was of my decision.

By the train of thought you have, I should stop brushing my teeth forever, because I brush them everyday and still had cavities throughout the years. Obviously there is more to healthy teeth than brushing them or you wouldn't have a job.

In the same respect, there is more to losing weight than getting a band, it is a commitment you make for the rest of your life. A commitment to changing your eating habits, to exercise, the whole nine yards.

The good news for you... since you are so miserable with your band, it is reversible.

35lbs overweight and claims to be an educated doctor. sniff sniff I smell a troll too.

I missed this quote before! I must state the facts about Dr Fielding!

Dr Fielding is one of the top bariatric surgeons in the country. He studied under the top surgeons in Europe for many years before the Lapband was ever introduced in the US. He is banded himself and has lost 150 lbs. He has kept it off for at least ten years now. He banded everyone who needed one in his hometown in Australia, for free. He is a brilliant, caring, generous man and I would not change Drs for any reason! There are several threads on this site pertaining to NYU bandsters if you would like to hear more about him.

It's a tool not a miracle cure. <shrug> Almost 100 pounds later I can say I don't think the lap band is bull hockey.

I can also say that the lap band is not for everyone but I do believe you have to work it....you can not wait for it to work you.

OMG! I LOVE your signature! How did you do that? It's awesome!

And yes, I agree with your statements about the troll. I just don't appreciate "educated" professionals who can't spell. Get a life, you old complainy fart! This is a SUPPORT forum, not a cheese and whine session!

I'm guessing he somehow conveniently skipped all that unnecessary preop stuff and just got the band thinking he was going to lose it easy....probably just plunked down some money and said "give it to me."

Lack of punctuation doesn't count as "typos". And there's nothing anal about using proper grammar and punctuation; they make posts much easier to read and understand.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
