filled & then unfilled - - - is this normal????

Recommended Posts

First of all, today is 1 month and I've just got to Celebrate by loss of 20.6 pounds. Yippee! Now to my real question.

Friday I went for my first fill. The doctor put in 3cc and then sent me to the waiting room to drink a bottle of Water. It didn't go down. For the first time since being banding, it "came back up". Not pretty, but it is what it is. So they put me back into the room and removed 1cc. Again sent me to the waiting room to drink water and all was well.

Is it normal to not be able to "hold" 3cc? Does that mean that I'll never be able to hold more than 2cc? Is this something I should be concerned about?

Hi, I've been banded for almost 7 months. I've had 3 fills for a total of 3.8cc in a 10cc band, and I am fully restricted. Everyone is very different on how much fill they need.

The way my doc explained it is when you get a fill, it tightens the tissue up inside the band, then over time as you eat and drink, the tissue will kind of flatten or smooth out, making the band feel looser. Then, on to the next fill, tissue gets all bunched up again, then smoothes out over time.

I hope this kind of explains what is going on inside ya!

Also, as you lose weight, the fat pad between the band and your stomach will shrink, causing you to need a fill to keep the same resistance.

I have had three fills since being banded the 1st of April and currently have 6cc in a 10cc band. With each fill the doctor put in enough flulid to completely occlude my band, then had me drink Water and would remove Fluid from my band until I could drink comfortably (he never removed the needle and re-stuck me).

I've only had one fill 3cc and it went pretty good. I think everyone is different as well as doctors, they all seem to, have their own ways about doing things.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
