Sick and Banded

Recommended Posts

I was banded about 8 months ago and haven't had any illnesses until now. I usually get sinus infections every year, but this is the first one I have had since the surgery. My sinus infection has lasted well over 2 weeks even though I have taken antibiotics since day 3 of being sick. Before I was banded I was only sick for about 3-5 days. I was wondering if the band is somehow hindering my body's healing process, or if anyone else has experienced the same thing. Any ideas????

I think you need to go back to your doctor. Sinus infections are hard to treat (the sinuses aren't highly vascularized) and you are lucky yours were so easily cured in the past. This time you might have gotten an infection that was resistant to your antibiotic. As long as your pills are going down your stomach being banded shouldn't hae any effect on if you can sure your sinus infection or not. Odds are you just need new drugs. Sorry you feel bad but call your doc as soon as he opens and go back in! (your sinus doc)

I am 3 wks into a sinus infection I just can't kick mine either. I just finished my 10 days of antiotics and I still have it. Guess I have to go back to the doc Tuesday. I haven't been banded yet but I too have always kicked mine without any Rx medicine...this one is just nasty!! I even have a nasty cough to go along w/ mine . Hope you feel better

I have had one for 2 weeks now and just now showing signs of improvement. I also had a run of antibiotics which helped but not much. I have been wondering the same thing. My diet has been crappy because of it as well. I have been drinking alot of orange and apple juice as well as milk because I can't stand to drink Water with all the drainage which is a first for me since getting banded. Hope you feel better soon!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
