Congratulations dal. It sounds like things are going great for you!! Keep up the good work and keep us posted. I go in at 8 tomorrow morning to get my band. I'll let you all know how it goes. I'm ready. Been in Houston for a week and 2 days now - that is enough. I want my band and I want to go home. Becky

I was banded yesterday September 18th. Doing pretty good. Some pain in neck and shoulder but warm compresses and walking helps a lot! My Surgeon is big on liquids so I lost 16 pounds on my pre op diet, now on Clear Liquids for 2 days, then full liquids for 10 days, then I start pureed foods. I'm really not hungry at all! It surprises me. Maybe all that gas deters you from feeling hungry!

I was banded on Sept 4.Well this week I went back to work and found myself still a little tired by the end of the day.

I've been walking a lot as we have a pretty large building and also my bf's sister gave us a total gym. I tried some exercises yesterday.

We had a health fair today at work and I did a BMI screening which said I was at 36 already! I think I'll wait to weigh again until the next time I go to the dr.

Hi everybody! I have finally landed in the world of the banded!!! I had my surgery yesterday and I feel so much better than I thought I would. My gas pain is not bad, sorness not bad.... but... I have had a headache ever since my surgery. I hardly ever get headaches... but sure got one now. Anyone else have this problem??? Suggestions?? You'd think since I am taking pain meds, it would go away, but it hasn't. Becky

are you a caffine drinker? Maybe you're body is missing the caffine. If it's that you just have to wait it out.

I had to give up Diet Pepsi and it almost killed me. I have consumed diet cola since I was 16, way back when they first came out in the 70's. They are, I believe, the major cause of my cronic "accute gastritis". They are unbelieveably addictive. And when I went off for my band, I suffered horrific headaches. If you are a big caffine drinker and didn't wean yourself off, you might need a little coffee. I'm not saying to go off of your Dr orders, but maybe just realizing that it is caffine might help. I had mu surgery on the 16 and spent the night. I was on heavy iv meds and still had a headache. They gave me tea thinking caffeine, put a wash cloth on my head, still had a headache. Respiratory came in and checked my oxygen level (I have sleep apnea) it was in the 80's not good.

Put my on a thin tube of oxygen the headache went away immediately. They think being on the pain med was relaxing my breathing too much, and I was not breathing deep enough in turn getting a headache from lack of good oxygen.

Who knows I am trying to keep the pain meds at a very low dose.

Hi Janine. I have had the same headache. Did they give you any tips on how to get rid of it?? Deep breathing?? I too am stopping the pain meds... if I am uncomfortable, I will try the liquid Tylenol. Nothing seems to get rid of this headache. I feel so good otherwise. No problems with gas and not even that sore. If you come up with anything please let me know. I can have caffine so I know it's not that. Thanks. Becky

Don't be scared. Laproscopic surgery isn't really bad. I have had two so far and was ok within a couple of days. You will do fine. If you can handle childbirth, you can handle this. Piece of cake. Good luck to you.

Banded on the 16th, can't stay off the scale. I have lost a total of 11 pounds, 8 since surgery. I will try my best to stay off the scale until tomorrow. Then, I am trying to stick with once a week. It is just so exciting to see the scale moving downward, everytime I go to the bathroom, I hop on the scale. I am really sick of cottage cheese. One of my favorite foods is turning into a non-favorite. On Tuesday, I will start eating soft solids. I am looking forward to that so I can have eggs and fish and chicken.

The soreness is much better today. I am trying to stay up all day and not take a nap. I need to keep my energy level up. I had the weirdest dream last night. I was at a buffet and was choosing the right foods. Everytime I put my plate down, it disappeared. I would get a new plate and it would disappear. It was really strange. I never did get to eat anything, All I was trying to eat was grilled chicken and mushrooms and broccoli. I just never could get a plate of food in front of me. What does this mean?

Last night, my DH was going to the store and asked if I wanted anything. I told him filet of fish, fries and a sweet tea. He talked about getting me some fries and putting them in the blender. No thank you. I have my first challenge next Saturday. I am going to a picnic. Last year it was catered and they had a variety of foods, including fried whitefish. I figure if I take the breading off, I should be able to eat the fish. I will also eat some veggies. By then, I will be on solids for a few days, so I should do okay.

I am hoping to be one of those people who loses 20 pounds the first two weeks. I need to see my weight come off pretty quickly for the first few months. I'm walking and plan to start back at the gym on the treadmill this week. I can't wait to get back to my weight training class. Now, I should really be able to see results.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

I am finally on my liquid diet. 9 more days till my surgery on September 30th. I wish I was further along like most of you. This clear liquid diet has sucked. The past few days trying to stay caffeine free has been awful. I had to give in since I had such a horrible headache and medicine wasn't working. Since then I have been better but crave to chew things.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
