Why Don't We Give A Little Update Where We're At

Recommended Posts

my surgery was also the 8th & I came home the morning of the 9th. I've learned a few interesting things ... Put yourself on a schedule of sorts or it's impossible to fit the water/protein intake in. I'm actually hungry today for the first time since the Clear Liquids preop on Sunday. Thank heaven for boyfriend & the 'rents who've been good about picking up all the stuff I dropped on the floor and to put my shoes on! Time for a shake! Take care!

Surgery the 10th. Sent me home two hours later. WAY to soon. My insurance would have covered a night stay at the hospital but because the dr. changed it from the hospital to his outpatient facility I had to go home the same day.

Walking a bunch and drinking my Water but boy does the should pain feel terrible. Hopefully will go away soon.

I thought this might help us to get to know each other better.

My surgery date is Sept. 10th. I'm on my 2nd day of pre-opt. Not to bad- Protein shake for Breakfast, lean Protein and veggie for lunch and dinner.

I'm in a good frame of mind, I've moved past all the second quessing, etc. and I'm ready for a new way of life with eating.

Also, is there a daily thread that we can all check in with everyday?

If not, let's start one!

Sandra

I'm going in Monday (9-15) for my surgery. Had my pre-op visit last week. I'm going from excited to nervous and back again. Though I'm sure I'll get the band this time since I'm going to consent to an open surgery if the lap fails again.

not trying to be a board hog but i have a story to share....

do yall remember my rant on page 2 of this thread about the redneck:angry_smile: moment i was feeling with the radiologist on september 3rd? well, they rescheduled my chest x-ray for yesterday. i had a meeting to go to at the hospital i work at first. so i called the lab and asked them to do a pregnancy test so i could give that mean old radiology lady a definite NO, I AM NOT PREGNANT:thumbdown:...well, i peed in the cup, she set the timer for 3 minutes, after about 1 1/2 min. i said well can i tell her a definite no, so i won't have a 4 legged baby...? lab tech says yep u can tell her nope...so as i was walking down the hall i heard someone yell my name, i went back to the lab...and if u could have seen her, hilarious...she had this huge magnifying glass with a really bright light shining on my pregnancy test, and said i think it's +...i started laughing, cause i really couldn't barely see it...so she made me draw blood...it was +, so they did a quantitative to c what my hcg level is...was 39...very early pregnancy...the test from the 3rd that they done was negative, we looked it up...so i am in a state of shock really, because we have tried fertility treatments, and i thought the band would help me get pregnant...but i am trying not to be terrified, because we lost one in 2001 and have been trying ever since...a little cramping, no spotting...go to ob friday, for another lab to make sure my hcg level is going up...my last one didn't...nervous, happy, scared, excited...so needless to say i am not at hospital right now for my surgery...my husband was the last one to find out because everyone knew before i left the hospital...when perry came home...i was grinning ear to ear, so he knew something was up...so i said...i'm not having surgery in the morning....he was like why not? and i said...i think i am just gonna lay around here and get fat for about 9 months 1st...omg...he is so happy....he called everone telling them he was gonna be a daddy...please please pray for me....i have 2 years good on my 6 month pre-op adventure, so i will still be banded...and i will be a september samurai at heart no matter when i get banded...and i will still be checking in on you ladies....ty for all the support...nay

Congradulations - what a blessing.

And don't worry, the band will always be there, relax, enjoy this magical time in your life:wink_smile:

Hi everyone!

I had my first follow-up apt today with the Dr. I have lost an additional 5 pounds since surgery! I am now down 24 pounds!!! Woo-Hoo:lol: He was really happy! He also pulled my steri strips off! I had to have more blood wrok done today! He also said I should stay on puree foods for another couple weeks! (I'm just happy to be on puree foods!) I found this chipotle salmon at Wal-mart - cooked it and added a little Tomato Soup and it was DELICIOUS! He was happy when I told him I was able to walk 2 miles now! I still get full fast! I hope this sensation last!

So anywho! I'm excited and I hope you all are doing well also!!!

Take care!

Teresa

I was banded on September 16, spent one night in the hospital, now at home being pampered by my DH. I tried to go without pain meds yesterday, but took some at about 5am and decided I need them for now. My incision at my navel is the one that really hurts but the meds eliminate that pain. I am having a hard time getting everthing in. I will work on that tomorrow. I am eliminating the IV fluids and lost 4 pounds overnight. I was up every hour. Still no BM, but hopefully, that will happen in another day or so. I don't really have an appetite yet. It's kind of weird. I have gotten over that sinking feeling that I had yesterday, questioning what was I thinking? I know I made the right decision. I am excited to see how this whole journey evolves. I have my follow-up visit with my surgeon on Monday. Yesterday, I was up 5 pounds from my pre surgery weight, but I know it is just the extra fluids they pumped into me. I'm still feeling a little tired, taking naps during the day. I am walking, getting in 30 [/url]minutes total today. I go back to work September 29, unless my doctor tells me to stay off longer. Next year this time, I will be at my goal weight. I am looking forward to that.

Hi Everyone.

Well I am rebanded on Sept 16. Doc said there was no fat around the organs or the liver. Thank god, with the weight I have put on I was afraid. There was a lot

of scar tissue so he was there an extra hour in surgery. I think he did an excellent job, I am not nearly as bruised as last time.

He put in the new 14cc band which normally goes on men but he wants to make sure I don't slip again so he went with the bigger one. He was going to put in 4cc's at the time of surgery but decided to keep it empty because of the swelling from the scar tissue.

I am going to take this nice and slow. Thanks everyone for all the kind words.

My journey has begun once again.

Had my first post-op appointment. Got the staples out which is the best feeling! I lost 10 more pounds! Wow. Cream Soups and pudding taste wonderful, but still not hungry. Go back in 5 weeks for my first fill - a little scared! I am getting stronger. Back at work and too busy. God bless all you who are on the journey. I know we will be glad we did this! I can already see a difference and my clothes are getting loose! Woo-hoo!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
